My sweet baby girl Sophie started out vomiting and not being able to have a BM....Vet did X-ray, rocks in belly, she passed the rocks fine, still not feeling well so they did ultrasound, found enlarged lymph node in abdomen...they couldn't aspirated due to two laarge blood vessels in the way, if they would nick one they couldnt get in to get the bleeding stopped in time to save her...she seemed back to normal over Christmas and New Years, now back to not eating, sometimes trembling/shivering, drinks tons of water, wants outside and then stands there. Vet has put her on antibiotics and pain medicine. Any suggestions...I have tried pumpkin, rice, chicken, prescription ID wet food....any ideas. I am lost on what to do for her..

Did the vet run any blood work? Are there any other enlarged lymphnodes? How long has she been on the antibiotics? Is she peeing and pooping?
Has the vet discussed doing an exploratory surgery on Sophie? There may be something still in there. I feel for you and Sophie - it is hard to watch our babies be ill. |

The Vet hasnt suggested putting her on Prednisone? Did he discuss with you what an enlarged lymph node in her abdomen might mean?
It concerns me she is drinking a lot of water. What pain meds is she on and what antibiotics?

The vet loos work when she first became ill....okay, her calcium was a little elevated. She is peeing, pooping not like she was but if you don't eat. The ultrasound showed all rocks were gone. She was doing great then stopped sting again.
I knew that the enlarged lymph node couldn't be cancer, but it couldn't be verified for sure so we were watching for other nodes to enlarge. Am I incorrect on that assumption that it could have just been enlarged from infection or something else. When I took Sophie in to see the vet tech on Friday, she had a one degree fever...when she went to see the vet on Sat...they didn't take her temp. Prednisone was never mentioned. She just started antibiotics....she is on so loading for thyroid, metronidazole, metoclopram and tram afoul if I feel she is in pain. She drinks a lot of water. Thank you everyone! I lost a boxer years ago to cancer....and is so hard when they don't respond. Forgot Amoxicilin Last edited by Mcaleer; 01-06-2013 at 11:19 AM. |

Cancer unfortunately could be a real possibility. BUT that doesnt mean thats what it is. Being the calcium was up that points in that direction as well. Just seems like a lot of signs, urinating a lot excessive thirst calcium levels up enlarged Lymph node. Im surprised the Vet didnt want to try Prednisone to see if that increases her appetite. I pray its not cancer I lost my Gouda to cancer and I know how that feels.
Do you have a follow up visit soon?

No, just got antibiotics and that was it. They know I will call, but your right on the prednisone, she had gone back to eating a week or more ago then stopped on Thursday. Mt sister was here with here retreiver through the holidays and they left Thursday when this started again. We have a lab also. She did snarled twice at the lab twice which she has never done in her life. I think it is because she isn't feeling well.

I lost my Maggie to cancer. She had lymphonma & we didn't have any warnings till it was to late. She showed no signs till she started drinking excessively. We did prednisone for a few weeks & the vet said to just make her happy and to feed what she'd eat. She loved PB sandwiches so she'd get a half in the morning with yogurt (her pills went in her sandwich) occasionally we'd get her to eat some canned dog food but for the most part, I was making her food.
