I'm trying to research this but I'm not finding many helpful sites that aren't just wanting you to buy their book lol. We're going to be getting a 4 month old puppy soon who hasn't had any shots yet. Sadly, there isn't a holistic vet within driving distance, so we're going to have to go with a conventional vet that still does yearly vaccines =/ I'd like to know which shots are actually necessary so I can go in telling them what I want and what I don't want, or I know they'll just give him everything they can talk me into. I'd like to actually know what each shot was for and why he needs them. Advice, links, anything would be appreciated!
She does suggest the second if you are boarding your dog but I never do it.
The only additional one I have done is the kennel cough shot. My boy had a nasty cough caused by it. However, he rarely goes out to where other dogs are because he hates them. So no more for him.
I would say it depends on where you live and what is prevalent there
In BC we did parv/distemper combo and rabies. We also did bordatella (kennel cough) but she got kennel cough anyway and so I don't see the need for that. It's like the flu shot. Doesn't mean you won't get the flu.
My holistic vet said that after her 1 year booster shots she's done vaccinations for life now.
Although I will probably titre her at some point to make sure because I worry a lot lol
