Actually Coconut oil is not high in omega 3's like salmon oil etc. Its actually high in whats called medium chain fatty acids (MCFA). MCFA are digested by the body in a different way than the common long chain fatty acids (LCFA) found in most other foods. MCFA are quickly digested, producing energy instead of body fat and arterial plaque like LCFA. About 50 percent of the MFCA in coconut oil is lauric acid, which strengthens the immune system and is also found in human breast milk. Caprylic acid and capric acid are also present, contributing to coconut oil's antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties.
So if you are specifically looking for Omega 3's then you should feed both.

Sorry to bump this but I've got a dumb question. I was going to buy some coconut oil when I finally went grocery shopping today and couldn't find it. Maybe because I shopped at Walmart? Where is this stuff located? I notice someone found a good deal on bulk on Amazon, but I would like to try a smaller amount before buying $100 worth.

We buy ours at a small business called Nature's Country Store, but we've also found it at GNC and at Target down the baking aisle... at least that's what aisle it was in here. If you have any kind of health store near you that sells vitamins, supplements, minerals, herbs--etc. you will probably be able to find it there.
This is the brand that we buy: ![]() We just upped Serenity's dose from 1 teaspoon to 1-1/2 teaspoon. We found that we have to split it up though ~ 1 teaspoon at breakfast and 1/2 teaspoon at supper time. Otherwise, it made her throw up. Too sweet for her all at once, maybe? Since we've started doing that she's done just fine with it and hasn't gotten sick.
