I have a couple questions about oils - my 8 mo old is getting between 4-5 tsp of organic virgin coconut oil per day, along with a couple squirts- approx 1-2 tsp of fish oil - and a Vit E - 400UI at night in his meal. I've read a couple posts that say its ok to give fish oil w coconut oil, but I just want to make sure. He eats blue buffalo freedom grain free, and gets one raw egg - whole on his Friday morning meal. Other than that, he gets no other supplements or treats. Am I doing enough , or 2 much on the oil. I don't want to hurt him and for the life of me, I can't find the post where one person said her vet recc not giving coconut oil and fish oil together- but I dk why that would be, as they are so separate

I know many dont agree with me but most Vets and Vet techs are trained in traditional medicine and dont have a clue about holistic therapies some think they arent worth a flip to be frank.

They give advice without even knowing so yet again I do NOT blindly follow what any Vet or Vet tech says without doing my own research :)

Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate your feedback. I just want to do things right. You, as well as this forum, have taught me sooo many thngs! My mom is a vet, and you're right - I can't go to her because she doesn't know a thing about this. She is an amazing vet, but not a holistic one, and because of you, I am a firm firm believer in coconut oil now. It's amazing! I've seen first hand, even on my own hair. Haha! :) so thank you! :)

LOL I use coconut oil on my hair too!

I truly wish traditionally trained Vets would at least have an open mind.

I often ask the shelter Vet endless questions(whom I consider a friend) and I have asked why more vets dont embrace holistic therapies. She says they just arent trained that way and its drilled in them about the power of traditional meds. Now Im not knocking traditional meds they are life savers sometimes but its I wish they would open their minds.
I asked her if any holistic classes were available at Oklahoma State U. where she went to Vet school. She said there wasnt. I then asked if there had been would she have elected to take them...and she said yes for sure! Just seems silly especially since the trend is swinging more towards natural and holistic methods that Vet schools would offer those classes just as a basic training and to open the students minds.

Mgibs, my vet tech is the one that said for me to pick one & not give both. I have seen a difference in my girls since I've started the fish oil & I'm seeing a bigger difference since I've added the coconut oil. My girls get fed twice a day so in the morning we give the fish oil in the kibble with a little yogurt & then in the evening they get the coconut oil mixed in the kibble. The techs in the office also tend to recommend certain brands of things but I just smile & say Blue Buffalo and leave it at that. Now our vet on the other hand as soon as he says what are you feeding & I saw BB, he says awesome food mom. LOL The first time I took our Maggie to an off base vet, the vet was asking questions & said..what type of food. You could see the cringe on his face as he asked. I replied BB & he then was all smiles & said at least you aren't feeding a garbage food. I think I shocked him with my answer. LOL

I just bought the Natura (I think that's the brand name) extra-virgin coconut oil last week (holy expensive!) and Duke LOVES it. Now I just have to get used to actually giving it to him daily (I'm so forgetful I have a daily alarm to remind ME to take my vitamins! lol).

The link I posted is 2 tubs for $17.11 but being you are in canada not sure how cheap amazon.com will be for you. I know Kari 2monydogs has mentioned they sell it in costco and other stores there? I would PM her an ask where she gets hers :)
