Where to start... I had 12 tanks going at one time. From a 10 gallan all the way to a 150.
At that point I was fresh water only, being that I was 1.5 hours from the closest pet stores and couldnt risk having problems with the salt tanks. Although I did run salt water for a number of years. I was huge into african cichlids. I was also so proud of my fresh water moray eals. I grew a few of them from 2 inchs long to over 18 inchs. Ive had fresh water lobsters and crayfish escape and rome the house. Ive gone fishing in my own tanks and cought all my oscars with just a fishing hook. Feeding time was always the funnest, as most of my tanks were fed live fish. 100 plus gold fish in the feeder tank at any given time. Alot of good memories... Although, I did also have to clean a tank a week as I am super anal about things being spotless. I also sold my babys back to the pet stores. Tried to recoop some of the funds from all the filters and other expenses. But I finally hung up my hat a few years ago. Sold all my tanks, or gave them away to people who would put them to good use. I will get another tank one day, just one. For now, Id rather play with my boy

I agree, if the filter is working good, filters are changed when its time then it will stay pretty clean. When I first got the tank the people at the store said get goldfish first since it is a new tank they will probably die then you can get better fish. I had 4 goldfish 2 died and I had 2 algae eaters. Well the goldfish just kept growing and growing and the same with the algae eaters and there was nothing I could do to keep that tank clean. They all grew to almost 5 inches long. Just imagine four 5 inche fish in a 20 gallon tank. Luckily a friend has a huge pond with goldfish and algae eaters and she took them. Now I have 8 fish but they are small and my tank has been clean ever since I got them.

We have a couple of setups, a 125 gallon south American cichlid tank and a 29 gallon saltwater setup, once you learn about ammonia, nitrates, nitrites and growing bacteria, they are easy to keep.

My bf has a fresh-water setup that is pretty sweet. He is also anal, and cleans the filter, etc every week. I think you could drink out of his tank...(semi joking here!!) and his fish are really responsive to when we turn on and off the lights...they know it's feeding time when the light goes on!!

Here's a link to pics of my BF's 55 gallon saltwater tank. We currently have about a dozen different types of corals, one yellow tang, one cole tang, one clownfish and a bunch of critters in there right now. http://www.3reef.com/forums/show-off-yo ... 60358.html

My daughter has a 20 gallon fresh water tank. We've had it for about a year now. Unfortunately, we have had several fish funerals this past year...
It's funny to watch Laila try to eat them... |
