Default How Long Can a 5 Month Old Be in a Crate?

It is that time of year again......my school schedule is starting up again, and that takes me away from home a lot more then I have been throughout these past 2 months.

My question is, Ryleigh is now (almost) 5 months old, and how long can she be in her crate without being too uncomfortable? She LOVES her crate, and never complains about going in when I leave, and whenever I come home she is fast asleep. The longest I have left her in there has been about 5 hours, no pee breaks, and she did fine...no accidents.

The longest I will be away from home will be about 7 hours, 2-3 days a week. The others days it will be about 5-6 hours. I will have someone come let her out at noon to have a break... but other then that, will she be fine?

It is a new routine that we will have to get used to--- we will adjust with time!
I do have an outdoor pen with a run-in, but I don't want to leave a puppy outside for that long, so she will have to resort to the crate. Unless I can trust her loose in one room.

Your thoughts?

Its not safe to leave them outside with no one there - one bee stink could come home to an unhappy sight.

Anyways if you have someone coming over to let her potty she will be fine. * Many people are away 8 hrs a day at work and like us have a dog walker or come home at lunch to walk them. *Key is when you get home or before you leave - give plenty of exercise. *Then they will be tired and have no issues sleeping all day.

i agree with hannah banana. *our 5 month old can go 5 hrsw/no problem too. and with that pee break she should do 8 hrs easy. but she'll want som major playtime when you come home... she will get used to anything as long as you are happy w/her.
she is beautiful

Ouside is also a no no because someone might steal your pup-happens all the time in Hawaii. Our local club has lost two boxers this way or they broke free but in both cases, the outside spaces were totally enclosed. One was in a nice neighborhood too.

i agree no outside.. just plenty of exercise before you leave/when you get home... that should do the trick!

Im sure if she is having breaks she will do fine!

My two little ones are crated bout 4 hrs a day with a break inbetween, just the way it works out with my very early shifts and Buks starting work at a NORMAL time. . . *but they have gone a bit longer with no probs. . .maybe try her out of the crate in a room, just with the crate door open, leave her and each time leave her a bit longer and see how she does, any probs then you can just leave her in thecrate.

Zulu is perfect and has full roam of the house and we've not had any issues, apart from the fact he likes to open the mail

i once had a boxer who had to stay outside while everyone was at work/school. we used to have a longgg chain so he couldnt break free....hed still jump the fence with his chain on. not a very plesent sight to come home seeing your dog hanging over the fence! he was crazy. he was always funny to see him hope over the wall and just rome the streets like he was a king.
