I have heard the 5 minute rule as far as walks for young dogs go but it just seems like she is still so wound if I only go for a half an hour walk. Is it really dangerous/detrimental for her health if I take her for 45 minute-1 hour walks from time to time?

They are talking about forced exercise such as running or joggging etc. I walked Jaxon until he pooped out. I carried him home many times as a youngun. What I tell my parents at the hospital is "watch the baby" not the monitors. Watch her she will let you know when it's too much

I couldn't follow that when Rally was a pup. I would let her do any intense running but by the time she was 7 months old we were covering 3-3.5 hours a day! All that just do she's leave me alone long enough to clean! lol

I took Logan for some pretty long walks at that age. It was at his pace though. I never forced him to jog or run, we just kind of strolled so he could check things out. I think the mental stimulation was more tiring than the actual walking in his case.

Our six month old Smudge would be horrendous at home if you followed the 5 min rule. She easily does an hour and a half or two hours, and needs it!
