Our pup is 11 weeks old today. The breeder had her on Nutro Max Puppy and we would like to switch her to the higher quality Nutro Ultra Puppy (both puppy formulas). How soon can we start the switch and what is the ratio of of food to new food to get her started on the Ultra? Thanks!

Honestly, I would find an even higher quality food than the Ultra- yes it is holistic and much better than the other stuff the breeder had- but! It's full of grains. I would try a grain free food such as Orijen, Acana, Blue Buffalo- Freedom line- which is grain free, or the Blue Buffalo Wilderness line, also grain free. Nutro Ultra is a good food, but it's not a great food. When we got our boxer puppy - who is now 9 mo - I didn't even consider the Nutro food at all, which is saying something because I have an 8 yr old schnauzer that has eaten Nutro Ultra for 7 yrs. I just think there are a lot higher quality of foods out there. And now I am changing her food to grain free as well. The reason grain free- is dogs bodies are really not designed to handle the grains and most dogs have very bad allergies to grains. At least the ultra doesn't have corn in it, but a completely grain free food is much better for the dog, ESP considering all of the health probs Boxers are prone to. As far as switching, you can start right away- start by mixing the old food with the new food- 1/4 new, 3/4 old for a couple three days, the do 1/2 and 1/2 and slowly over the course of 7-10 days you can completely make the switch

Is there a specific reason why you want to switch to Nutro Ultra? There are better kibbles out there and if you want to switch maybe consider a better quality food especially because Nutro has a lot of rice in it. Might save you from having to switch again later

We thought it would be easiest to keep her on the same brand so she didn't get too sick from switching foods. We will look into other brands after reading what everyone has said. I've heard blue buffalo is the best. My brother has his American bulldog on wellness and he's been happy with that too.

I don't remember what Wyatt came to us on...It's written down in his files. We put him on Eukenuba Natural lamb and rice which he did GREAT on. But I was getting disgusted paying $45 for 14 lbs of food. Did my research and switched him to Wellness Super5Mix (puppy). Well, 2 weeks later he got stinky, and started losing hair. Turns out, he can't have the salmon in it. Took him to the vet, they said I could switch to adult. So I bought some BB Freedom. Gave him a little with his food today and he gobbled it down...Sometimes the best of foods don't agree with our "babies". If this food doesn't work, I'm going raw!

As long as you get an all life stages kibble, you don't need to feed a puppy food. I'd recommend Blue Buffalo Freedom or Acana grain free over the Nutro Ultra. I also like California Natural grain free and Earthborn grain free.

When Pheona came to us she was on Kibbles & Bits, well not really as she was not ready to be on kibble & still should of been with mom. I put her on puppy milk replacement (she was only 4 weeks & our vet recommended it) and then put her on Blue Buffalo. When we got Murphy she was on Puppy Chow which we already knew after a little while in our house she'd be moved over to Blue Buffalo as well. We were told about Blue when our Maggie was around 6 or 7 yrs old.
