Last thursday me and my dad had to put down our best friend Duke Wayne. We got him as a puppy and he would have been 12 years old on June 10th. Duke had the best life any dog could have. He got to go on car rides everyday with my dad which he loved, and got to go in and out of the house and play in the yard as he pleased. Everybody who met Duke loved him. He had such a great personality. I'm not sure there was a more well known dog where I lived.
Duke was battling siezures for a couple of years. We had him on medication since they began. Over those few years he would still have them where then we would up the dose as directed by the vet. He even had to stay overnight at a 24/hr vet emergency center when he would have siezures and he was on what we believed was enough medication to stop them. So just incase we would bring him there so they could stop another siezure if he were to have one. The last siezure Duke had I think was the last one he could take. The Dog was a tank, and would bounce back from these terrible things. But it came a point where we knew we had to let him go to a better place and end his suffering. He was becoming uncomfortable and I think if he were able to talk he would have told us he was ready. Me and my dad stayed with him to the end. It was the hardest thing Im sure the both of us ever had to do but something we knew we HAD to do because we loved our dog so much and it was the best for him. Heres a few pictures of our best buddy in his younger years. I'm so sorry for your loss. Duke was a gorgeous boy and was lucky to have a family that loved him so much. You and your dad gave Duke the most unselfish final gift of helping him when he was ready to go.
Run free sweet Duke.

So sorry for the loss of your dear Duke. He was so lucky to have a family like you that loved and cared for him all those years. It's never easy to say goodbye, but you were so selfless to let your boy be in a better, more comfortable place. I'm sure you have lots of special memories of him. Cherish them!
