Default I just lost my 1 of my boxers

We just lost 1 of our 3 boxers. Daubie (5 yrs of age) had a splenectormy because there was a 2.5 lb tumor attached to it... We thought the worst and the he had Hemangiosarcoma (malignant tumor). The biopsy came back benign and we were so happy! Then he started getting worse and worse days after surgery. We took him back in and the blood work looked good.
He continued to decline and we took him back again. His immune system was in hyper active mode from the tumor and began to attack the platlets and red blood cells.
He was in ICU for 5 days with very poor blood work. We tried blood transfusions along with synthetic hemoglobin transfusions. We tried high dosages of steroids and a few other immune system depressants used on humans for heart transplants. Our poor guy was so weak he could not stand up anymore, he started to bleed through his nose. Then all of a sudden he started to respond to the meds and his platlets value came up and red blood cells stayed low but steady. Yesterday he was urinating on his towel outside his kennel in ICU and he fell over and died. They could not save him. My wife is taking this very very hard. This is devastating, we are taking this harder than when my wife's mother passed away. I can barely stand going home at night. Our 3 musketeers are down to 2. Please say a prayer for him. I know that I pray for him and to give my wife the strength to overcome this loss. Now she want's no more animals because of the heartache.

Oh, how very sad! So sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose a beloved pet. You did everything you could for him.

You have my sympathy. I understand. I felt the same. My Cookie died in feb and my mom in June and I cried every single day until July when we got Ginger. She was my best friend and we were inseperateable for 10 yrs.
