Unhappy 10 days in raw feeding - PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi All -
Ten days ago i switched my 10 month old female boxer Penelope and 2 year old German Shepherd Gunther to a raw diet. I've read books, read blogs, read websites. Penelope had been on Origin Puppy until the switch and Gunther was on Natural Balance (recently got him from a rescue and continued what they were feeding for a few weeks until the switch to raw).

For the switch, we fasted them both for a full day, and then started them on hare-today's ground chicken (with bones and organs) at 2 1/2% of their weight (for Penelope, we chose 2 1/2% of adult weight). After 24 hours on the diet, they both had explosive totally liquid diarrhea for two days. We then reduced to 2% rather than 2 1/2% and Penelope's diarrhea subsided and her stool hardened up, Gunther's just remained runny but not explosive and he could hold it.

After a week on the diet (3 days ago), Penelope's perfect stools turned back to runny (although she could it until her walks) and Gunther still has runny stools.

Last night i switched dinner to chicken leg quarters with skin and fat removed, thinking the higher bone content (@30% for leg quarters based on my research), and Gunther today had explosive liquid diarrhea (although he held it until outside after whining at the door) and Penelope still has diarrhea.

Chicken was main ingredient in both of their kibbles, so i can't imagine it's a simultanous allergy. Hare Today is reputable and their chicken is not enhanced.

We are not sure why this runny stool/diarrhea is ongoing for 10 days but want to stick with raw. The dogs looks slightly thin, but are thriving otherwise and seem comfortable, drinking regularly, have appetite, etc.

Sorry for all the info., but just wanted to give as much info as possible to help with any suggestions you may have. Not sure what to do. This doesn't seem normal from what i've read (10 days and still not adjusted).

Please help. Beyond frustated. THANK YOU!

Check out the Beginner's guide to raw feeding: Beginners Guide to Raw Feeding

It could be something in the premade raw.

If you are willing to go PMR, follow the guide and you should have no issues. If you feed them leg quarters tonight, remove all the skin and as much fat as possible. The skin has a lot of fat and will cause diarrhea. You have to ease them into it.

Hi - Thank you, Susy. I did remove all the skin and fat from the leg quarters and it still happened! GOing to try bone-in skinless breast tonight (removing the fat). Fingers crossed!

Try something with a heavier bone content like chicken backs or turkey necks.

Have you had them checked for parasites? Just in case?

I honestly cannot find chicken backs but have been looking. I will try turkey necks but i was worried about switching the protein before they got used to chicken. Maybe turkey is close enough and with all the bone in the necks that'll fix it up?
Haven't gotten them checked for parasites because it all started up 10 days ago or so when we switched to raw so i've been assuming it is that. We initially called our vet group and they told us it was because of raw and we should stop feeding raw ugh....

Hey there; I too ditto Susy's advice. Follow the link for beginners guide to raw feeding. Just stick with the chicken leg quarters with skin and fat removed. Our dogs will go through a detox and this could be happening with your guys. Stick with the leg quarters for 2 weeks

Ya, best not mix turkey in yet. If you can find chicken backs, that would be ideal. Do you have an Asian market near you? They usually have a large selection of items that you can't find at your local grocery store.
