As of right now, I'm thinking Abby may have a beef allergy. She had very red irritated ears that seemed to be clearing up until I gave her beef dinner and the following day her ears flared up again. They're still healing a bit, but for the most part are back to normal. I'm planning on giving her a few weeks or so before trying beef again just to make sure one way or another if beef is causing her problem.
If she is allergic to beef, would she also be allergic to veal? I know it's the same animal, but I'm not sure if the veal has a differnet nutritional value or if I should just skip that all together too. I'm trying to figure out a nice red meat to give her in place of beef so she'll have enough variety. As of right now she's getting chicken and turkey (both lean), pork, and lamb. I'm looking to try her with some goat and rabbit as soon as I can place my first order through a raw food supplier. I could also try bison, but that is hard to come by and is very expensive ($9.99lb). This kind of throws a wrench at me because beef is the most readily available meat and I can usually get half way decent prices and stock up for weeks at a time. Now I'm kind of scrambling to find a substitute for her. Any other suggestions?

I feel ya,Valant has developped some redness on his front legs and a tad on his belly, gave him a rack of beef cubes for xmas as a breakfast...of course,he loved it.
But that also gave him the runs for 2 days...poor dude. No problems with horse meat, chicken or even pork (raw)

Mandy, I would remove beef for 4 weeks. See if there is any improvement in her ears. Then add it back slowly, 3-4 oz and see if her ears start to react.
Mya is sensitive to chicken. She will chew her feet and scratch at her ears. I can feed it in very small amounts but have stopped giving it to her as an entire meal. We switched to turkey and she has no issues. Veal would have the same reaction Other proteins: lamb, pork, goat, rabbit, buffalo, elk, venison, moose

I already give her chicken and pork (all raw) so that's part of her rotation now. I don't think I could feed horse meat for two reasons. One, I don't know if I could even get it here in the states and two, (this will probably sound dumb), but I love horses way to much to feed it to my dogs. LOL I grew up around horses so to me they're more or less like pets. Quote:

Do you have a raw pet store near you where you can buy some different meats? It might be much pricier. I'm switching mine off the bought raw and onto prey that you all are doing. It's much cheaper. I'm still feeding it in the mornings as its all ground up so I feed them and get ready for work. I like to watch them when they are eating the bones.
