I use to give Roxy homemade food! Shes now on Canidae and RAW! This is what I did:
I first cut up all the veggies because it was easier that way! I boiled about 12 cups of water then added about 1lb of ground beef/chicken, then added the veggies then when all that was done I put it in a huge camping type cooler and mixed in oatmeal. I use to make it for like a month supply so I made alot and it took awhile!! I used: ground beef/chicken fresh veggies(green beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, broccoli, carrots, ect) Then I froze everything in freezer bags. She ate about 4-5 cups of this each day. I also added bananas or apples and fish(sardines, mackrel, salmon) I think thats about it. Now her and Reeko get Canidae dry dog food, Missing Link Supplement and RAW gizzards, hearts, kidneys ect, and the occasional marrow bone! I buy all of this at the grocery market Hope I helped a little bit

I was always taught not to feed people food, but this stuff sounds like it would be great for Bo. *I am considering raw and homecooked. *Just weighing all of my options.

The only time I have fed Ty "people" food is when he was sick. *He got chicken and rice. *It's nice having him not aware of "people" food, he does not beg when we are eating!

Michelle, you do have a point there..Couple weeks ago I got an e-mail from my sister wanting to know how to give her Golden some pills..So I suggested rolling up the pill in a piece of turkey or grinding it up in a bit of yogurt, she sends me back a message saying that "now you know Jake does not eat people food, if I start doing this, he is going to be spoiled rotten!"...Had to laugh at that....

I posted this elsewhere, but a nutritionist/critical care vet came up with the homecooked because of protein allergies, and the need for very low fat. *With all the GI problems raw was out since there could be allergic reactions to any normal bacteria, protozoa, or parasitic sources most dogs can normally tolerate. *We did Pollack, boiled white potato, and a vitamin, mineral and amino acid supplement from UC-Davis. *I threw in a few vegetables he'd pick out, and fruit made him gag so it was simple. *His eyes were clear, and no sneezing, or slinging the slobber he'd done for 8 years before that. *His coat was amazing. *It's a pain when you've got one that's 83 lbs.

Mine mostly get raw but I do use a grainless kibble from time to time. *I do not do full kibble due to the fact IMO its cooked and processed to stay good on shelves. *How much nutrients can in there if its cooked and processed? * Everyone has their own opinion on nutrition. *For me, if I can feed raw foods, veggie and actually give my dogs fresh meats and stuff unprocessed, to me IMO (again) is the best overall health for them. *I think it helps with alergies, as well as with certain medical problems because you can tweak the ingredients where as kibble you cannot.
