1. Foster homes are always the thing our rescue needs most....there are more boxers than we can save. For people who can't commit to a full time foster, our rescue also have "temp" foster homes, where they take the dog while the foster parents are on vacation, etc. That is such a big help for the full time fosters.
2. For us, it depends on the particular situation. We have some foster homes where the people have the time to manage this situation by crating, baby gating, separate playtime/walks. And they have the training or experience to deal with it. They usually just keep the dog until it is adopted. Others, who don't have the space or the time to "shuffle" dogs or run their house in such a strict manner, the rescue will try to switch the dogs around so that the people and the dogs are in the best possible environment for everyone. Tying into the first question, the most scarce resource for a rescue, and one of the most valuable, is a no dog foster home, so the the dogs that need to be in an only dog environment have somewhere to go.... 3. Our rescue supplies foster homes with food, crates, collars/leashes, HWP, Flea preventative...also all medical care is paid for by the rescue. 4. Each foster home goes through an inspection, and we have homes that don't have a fenced in area (some of our fosters are in apartments, etc)...but they know that they have to leash walk, etc. One of our checklist items is fence type and condition.....so depending on your fence, we would either say it is okay or tell you that you would need to leash walk if we didn't think the fence was secure enough...really just depends on the fence. As for time at work, that wouldn't be an issue.....we all work and have to work out our dog care. It would be unreasonable for a rescue to expect 24 hour care in person. 5. Our rescue has a group of volunteers who do all of the application screening, home visits, etc. Only after the applicant has passed everything does our adoption coordinator contact them and match them up with available dogs....if they feel they are a good match for your foster, then the coordinator will send you their information. At that point it is up to the foster to work with the applicant to meet....and in our rescue the foster gets to decide if it is a good match based on their conversations and meeting. 6. Some fosters are easier to love than others...some just "click" in your home, while others take more time/patience/more patience. Our rescue does allow the fosters to adopt their dogs, and I think that every long term foster that we have has a "foster failure" that they have adopted (me included). But most keep fostering. Knowing that you can save another is what keeps most people sane enough to let go of this little creature that you have been loving and training and watching blossom.....And people who adopt are usually pretty good about keeping you updated if you ask......they know how much these dogs mean to you and how hard it can be to just let them go ...so seeing them happy in their new families helps too.... I just want two whole minutes to sit down!! Tuesday I walked in from work at 6:35, completely forgetting we had a function at the Humane Society that started at 6:30. I didn't even get my coat off and we were flying back out the door. I worked late on Wednesday to meet with the Board president about some issues at work. Last night was the Chanukah play and reception, so we stumbled home around 10 pm. I'm worn out. My kid was sick this morning, but she woke up as I was leaving for work and decided she wanted to go to school anyway so she wouldn't miss her finals, so that made me late. I've beem rushing around ever since and I haven't accomplished a damn thing. BUT AT LEAST I GOT MY CARDS IN THE MAIL THIS YEAR!! LOL (Sorry if I seem a bit hysterical. I'm losing it!)

Oh no worries Cait! Take your time. I don't think any of us are tapping our feet on the floor getting upset you haven't chimed in yet. We all know you do so much and have so much on your plate. When you can get to it, you get to it.
