After staying at the vet's for 3 days for his check-up, Cameron came back home with some good and bad news.
Good news is that he tested negative for mites - YAY! But we will continue with the ivermectin treatment and bathing him twice a week with two medicated shampoo for one more month. If he tests negative again on his 2nd skin scraping, then we're definitely on the way to a full recovery from mange. And I started him on the lemon/rosemary solution that I will be spraying on him 3 times a day - thanks to Kari (2manydogs). And he no longer has an ear infection - his ears are now clean and healthy. A couple of bad news: he has kidney stones. I have also started giving him cranberry extract. It could be a long shot but it's worth a try. Also, a large lump mysteriously grew when he stayed at the vet's. I have no idea where that came from. I'm sure I didn't see nor feel that lump but now he's got this 2inch, hard lump on the bottom of his ribcage. It was aspirated and, although at a minimum, it contained 'active cells'. Pardon me if the way I'm explaining all this in a confusing way, medically speaking, but I'm only beginning to learn all of this, all at once. It's quite overwhelming, to say the least. When his immune system is better and stronger, and when he gains more weight, only then can he go into surgery for his neutering, kidney stones and lump removal. He has not been neutered because he was so emaciated when found as a stray. And oh, he has a mitral valve prolapse - a heart problem in which the valve that separates the upper and lower chambers of the left side of the heart does not close properly. He's not taking any meds for this so I'm assuming it's not a serious case. Currently, he is taking cephalaxin and fluconazole. I am waiting for my orders of astralagus, licorice root, flaxseed oil, borage oil and coconut oil. Would it be recommended that I put him on the benadryl and tagamet combo treatment to help with the lump? Any advise to help my foster boy is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Do you know if the kidney stones are struvite or oxalate (sp) ?
Struvite is the more common of the two I believe. I would use the Cranberry with D-Mannose (D-Mannose is stronger and will help if they are struvite stones) . You can get that on Amazon or from the Vitamin Shoppe. When Maggie had the little lump on her ear I started giving her Astragalus root, and vitamin C ,her bump disappeared before her surgery date -not sure if it had anything to do with the supplements though. I think the benadryl and tagamet only helps with mast cell ( not sure though) Give smooches to Cameron and Leila from me. |

Awww that sweet boy. I think you have done wonders for him so far . You have some great things on order and it sounds like he is in great hands
As for the lump did the Vet mention Mast Cell Tumor? The tagamet and benadryl is mainly for that. The Astragalus and coconut oil will surely stimulate his immune system. Hugs to that sweet boy!
