Hi all. I hesitated posting Baby's story because she's not a boxer--she's a pibble. However, my vet called me in and requested help finding Baby a home, and after all he's done for boxer rescue, I feel like I should go the extra mile for him and this sweet girl. I talked to one of the Mods to make sure posting her story would be okay. Meet Baby:
![]() Baby is approximately 3 years old. Despite everything she's gone through, she is a very sweet girl who just wants love and affection. Baby was found wandering around Plattsmouth, NE. The man who found her brought her in to my vet's office on December 5th because she had a large abscess under her tail. It was oozing pus and there was a lot of swelling at the base of her tail and around her anus. Despite drain tubes being placed to drain off the abscess, the surrounding tissue became necrotic. The links to the pictures follow, but I must warn you, they are GRAPHIC. Wound with drain tubes and necrotic tissue: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/IMAG0352.jpg Tail after necrotic tissue and abscess removal: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/IMAG0355.jpg Necrotic tissue after removal: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/IMAG0356.jpg Stages of wound healing: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/IMAG0357.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/IMAG0359.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/IMAG0360.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/IMAG0365.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...m/IMAG0377.jpg Throughout Baby's treatment, my vet tried working out payment arrangements with the man but no payments were made. Ultimately, the man surrendered Baby to my vet. My vet continues to treat Baby and contacted me to help him find her a good home. I've set up a chip-in for Baby: ChipIn: Baby the Pittie's Medical My goal in establishing this chip-in is to help my vet recoup some of his out-of-pocket costs associated with Baby's ongoing medical care. She still has quite a ways to go, and he intends to continue treating her throughout her recovery. I'm doing this because of everything he does to help me in my rescue work. He discounts all his services, even waiving fees for some services completely, and he waives all boarding fees when dogs need temporary boarding between the time they are pulled from shelters and are sent to their foster homes. Because of his generosity, I've been able to help so many boxers needing medical care. Also, it's harder to place a dog that will need continued medical care. If some or all of that care is covered, it might be easier to find an adopter willing to take Baby on even if she has follow-up care that is still needed. If you can't help, it's okay. I completely understand. If you could just please share Baby's story. If you wish to help but don't feel comfortable using a chip-in, you can donate towards her care directly to the vet's office: Best Care Pet Hospital West Michael Siggers, DVM 13212 Cottner St. Omaha, NE 68128 (402) 334-5975 Just designate any donations to go towards Baby's care. As always, THANK YOU!!

Poor thing was bitten?
Wouldnt it cost less and be better for her to have the tail removed (I know, its an amputation). She looks good and gentle Good luck!

Bah, my iPad wont let me do the chip in because it doesn't have "flash" I'll donate 20.00 as soon as I get out of my soak. Give Baby kisses and hugs for me. If she still needs help I'll be able to contribute more right after the first of the year. Sorry it cant be more right this minute, we spent too much on the boy and dogs this Christmas

I too wondered if it wouldn't have been easier to just dock the tail. I'm willing to bet that doing so might have increased the chances of the infection spreading into her spine though. Just a thought.

Not sure what caused the abscess. I think it had started before the man found her and progressed to that point. An amputation was not an option as there was not enough viable tissue to be stitched closed.
