My first Boxer and she's a rescue

My friend and I were touring the local shelters looking for a German Shepherd for myself and a Husky for her. Well it didn't end up that way. We ended up at our final stop, the county shelter. While there my friend fell in love with a blue tick hound, she just had to have him. Of course I kept looking at this face wondering how can a dog look down and up at the same time giving the true puppy eyes. I was in love with a Boxer. A Boxer?? Really?? Me?? A Boxer?? Ok so I adopt her bring her home(knowing very little of the breed) went through all the underbite jokes I could think of but still loving her dearly. I didn't realize underbites were common in Boxers. She is probably one of the sweetest dogs in the world. She's 8 months old est. weighing in at a mere 24pnds. Yep she's skinny. I also found out today being at the shelter a month she was most likely the next to be euthenized. I flat out asked the guy and he said yes she was, but she got lucky. She was spayed today and tonight she doesn't feel like eating. Makes me feel bad for her she needs to eat but she is drugged up. She's not a purebred I'm sure of that her markings show me she's mixed with a heeler or something. I need a name for her so any advice on that would be great. I've been calling her Zeena, or Zee been thinking about Nadia but just not sure so any ideas would be appreicaited. Well here she is the newest member of the family.

If I had gotten a girl I would have named her Laila, as in Laila Ali.. Boxer. I know, not very original. But I like it

congrats on the addition! and WELCOME and all you need to know about the breed you can find here also we like Questions and pics someone here has an answer for anything she can come up with as for a name I'm no help and beef or chicken broth would at least get something in her

congrats and welcome! i am sure it won't take long for you to fall in love with the boxer - they are quite a special breed. Your girl in gorgeous! For a mix she does look very 'boxer-ish' -- she is lovely! I have 2 boys myself.. so not too sure on girl names.. but i can tell you if you have started with Zeena it will be pretty tough to stop. When we got our second we didn't have a name so we just started calling him Little Man, 24 hours later we decided on the name Boss-- yet, he is STILL called Little Man.. (i am not sure what we are going to do when he isn't so little any more) hah. Well, enjoy all the amazing info this forum has! Oh yeah, boxers are suppose to be skinny (obviously not too skinny), but when they are pups they go through lots of awkward growing stages-- leggy, ribby, etc. Just don't think she is suppose to be bulky or anything.

Gosh, names... I went through the same thing trying to find the right name. I highly recommend a name that does not sound like NO or DOWN or SIT... That way her name can be special. I love the names you have narrowed down. Nadia or Zeena.

I'll post more pics of her today, she's kind of a wiggly worm. Happy to say that when I walked into the quiet living room this morning(still not a sound all night wish the other dogs were like that) she was up wagging her tail pleading let me pee with those sad eyes. We currently have her in an extra large kennel at night so she can rest from the surgery. Of course she will probably continue sleeping in there, my husband was caught in a house fire when he was a kid he must know where all the pets are sleeping as a precaution so if it happens our furbabies get out too. Happy to say she was excited to see food this morning. Last night we got her to eat some baked chicken, and I took a wet paper towl and squeezed it over her muzzle to get her to drink. I thnk she is well on her way to recovery as she hopped up to her favorite spot this morning, the couch. Oh one question, do Boxers normally have gooey eyes? I know they are somewhat wattery but she always has this white slimy stuff(not a whole lot but some) in the corners. I wash them but really can't wait to give her a good bath.

Congrats she is very cute!! Another story of how things are just meant to be. She will put her weight on now that she is with you. You will LOVE having a boxer!
