Default Picky about who she likes

Hey,

I'm not sure if this is a boxer thing, dog thing or just my girl.

Gypsy is very particular about who she like and wants around her or who walks down the street for that matter...lol

- she doesn't like men except if they have been to our house,

-she doesn't like anyone who is brown especially if they wear a head scarf or turbin and in my area it's hard because majority of the population is Indian/packastany etc

-she doesn't like it wheny husband hugs me

-but all kids are fine which I can't complain about that

The problem is that she is barking and growling all the time because she like to sit at the window and walks are hard because she comes to a dead stop and starts growling.
I'm trying to teach her a sign for no barking and it's a hit or a miss if she listens haha ...does as she told. Part of me doesn't want to correct her because isn't the just part of being a dog? I'm not sure. Any suggestions for what I should do?

I'm gonna chime in and answer your question first ... and say no, that kind'a "discrimination" is not a "dog thing" and I feel comfortable in saying, it is most certainly not a "Boxer" thing. If I had a dog that behaved that way, I'd be disappointed, if I had a Boxer that behaved that way ... I'd be crushed.

So no in anycase ... crap like that is not "just part of being a dog" crap like that is why dogs get rehomed or PTS when owners get tired of dealing with it. That said, yes there are certainly things you can do if you are willing to make changes.

But I'd like to here from others and there Boxers and starngers experiences??? Welcome aboard.

Thank you and it is embarrassing having her growling at everyone.

Is it possible that it just she just doesn't like anything on people's heads. I haven't seen anyone wearing a baseball hat he yet as it is not quite the season to have to wear hats all the time.

My niece's boyfriend said that his dog didn't like hats at all and if our took is off the dog would stop freaking out.

Howdy from Texas. Great information here. My Fritz ,barkes at anyone with a hat or anything on there heads. He loves to look out the front door ,but I only open it after the maillady runs.He looks out if he sees anyone coming,he is growling very low, until they crosses the driveway, then it is bark time ,until they get to next door. Then he is fine.He knows all neighbors, so he comes to tell me when 1 of them is comming. I do have a no soliciting sign on door.If anyone comes up sidewalk to porch he starts barking, and growling, at them.I am o.k. with that. They take off like a flash. But he does fine with kids, and walking him is fine ,he looks at me ,I tell him o.k.when ever we met someone we don't know.

Zuke looks and acts like every stranger is leaking dog treats from their ears. Loves to greet everyone and try to give them a tongue bath. He has since been trained that is not how we greet people.

As long as you allow that to happen ... your not going to be able to make ... improvements in other areas. What she sees/learns/practices is, if I bark at whoever is passing by in front of my window ... "they go away."
If it works out home why won't it work when I am out and about???

Dogs barking when someone comes up your driveway and actually knock on the door is one thing, but nuisance barking is quite another. I failed one night to understand just how well trained Struddell was and "Goofy" or not a well trained Boxer is an "Excellent Watch Dog." I learned that when this happened.

A dog that barks at everything is not of much value as a "Watchdog."

That is unwanted behaviour from any dog regardless of breed. I'd seek a a behaviourist and address this behaviour immediately as it will escalate into leash reactivity or fear aggression.

Which province/city are you in?

Oh forgot he's Deaf also, regardless your still gonna have to stop the "Window Barking" trainer or not. But as to find a trainer you could call Jeff Gellman ... he might know of trainers out there???

You maybe able to contact him on his FaceBook page. :
https://www.facebook.com/Solid-K9-Tr...0229622668254/

or his Company here.:
Solid K9 Training aggressive dog rehab, dog anxiety - Rehabilitation and Family Dog Training

And I'll ask on the GermanshepardForum if anyone there has a recommendation???
