Default 11 month boxer I am adopting?

hi every one this is my first post. My wife and I are thinking about adopting a 11 month old female boxer. We are so excited about it, our only concern is that we have 3 yr old and a 4 month old children. Our oldest is used to dogs, we had a great Dane that passed away last fall. He grew up with that dog. The owners said that they have had this boxer in puppy classes. I jsut do not know what to think of how she will act around our 4 month old. The owners said the boxer has been around thier 1 yr old daughter since she was a puppy. Does anyone have any sugestions on training this new dog around our children. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

The main thing is just to watch the pup around the children until she gets used to her new home. Sounds like she is already used to small children. Best of luck to all of you. Oh, and Welcome to the forum!

I brought my pup to my friends house who has a newborn around the same age. All she did was smell his hands and watch him like he was the only person in the room.

I used to be worried about having my brother and sister in law over to our house, because they have 3 small children, who are now 5 yr, 3 yr, and 1 yr old. I just made sure to watch them closely the first few times the kids were over, because I knew how much energy my pups have and how easy it would be to accidentally knock one of my nieces or nephews down. Surprisingly, they somehow knew to be gentle with the kids, and the most they would do is try to smother then with kisses. After a few firm "no's", they stopped smothering, but would still sneak by every few minutes and give them each a little lick! If your puppy has been around little kids, I think it should be a fairly easy transition. Just keep your eyes peeled! Best of luck with your new puppy.

our two boys are 11 1/2 months and when the nieces and nephews come over every 2nd weekend they just go crazy with excitement and then eventually they calm down. Kailer and Titan just love kids!!!! BUT you do have to keep an eye all the time as dogs do jump as mine do and sometimes the children have to be reminded of what to do and what not to do and also I do several sit/waits and/or settle/waits as my boys have to focus on that before the kids give them their treats and the next thing you know they themselves are tuckered and head for their crates ... just use your commonsense and you do have experience . enjoy your new pup!!!! Congrats
