Default Boxer Puppy: Pees Outside - Poops Inside PLEASE HELP!

Our new puppy Jersey is a 12wk old boxer. We got her about a week ago from a family who had her for a week and realized they weren't ready for her. They did a bit of training on puppy pads when they had her.

In the week since we got her she has been great at peeing outside. We do the usual: outside in the morning - pees, she eats, and goes outside again and usually pees and poops. Then she is put in her kennel for 2-2.5 hours (which she likes) but I typically come home at lunch to poop in the kennel. Then shes back in the kennel for another hour or two after lunch and is usually fine.

We are using a rather large crate so a few days ago I sectioned it off with cardboard. This morning she knocked the cardboard down, dragged her blanket to the back of the kennel, pooped on it, and sat in the front of the kennel until I got home. In days past when she was unsuccessful in moving the cardboard, she has pooped in the front of the kennel and tried to cover it up with the blanket.

Tonight after supper, she finished eating and walked straight into the kennel and pooped again before I even got the chance to take her out.

In short she typically poops 3-4 times a day - usually 2 or 3 of which are in or near the kennel. Whether she's home by herself for a couple hours or hanging around with us at home in the evening, it seems to be her regular place to poop.

We live in Canada so we can't just put her outside because she gets very cold. I take her out for 5-6 minutes at a time. Sometimes she has to go outside 3-4 times before she'll poop, although she takes a small pee on nearly every trip.

What can we do? It seems she just doesn't recognize that she needs to poop outside. I think she thinks the kennel is where she is supposed to poop. Also her poops are so unpredictable its hard to know when she needs to go. Sometimes she will poop immediately after a meal, sometimes 20 minutes after a meal, sometimes 3 hours after a meal. I read in a forum to take the poop out of the kennel and place it outside and show it to her. Do you think that would help?

Anything you guys can offer would be great. We look very much forward to being a part of this online community

I am using this:

We wash the blanket in hot water in the washing machine and I use that product on the kennel "tray" and surrounding area.

Natures miracle worked wonders with my pups. In addition to the original, they also have one that's called No More Marking, which is a deterrent for going potty in an area but not to keep them away from the area entirely so it would work in the kennel. It's a bit expensive but I swear by it.

And I would take the poop outside where you want her to go. Take it to the same spot each time and she should get the idea. Maggie was stubborn too. I didn't think she would EVER get potty trained outside, but she finally did.

I have to agree with using a really good enzyme to clean her kennel with. Also, I'd never heard or read about taking the poop outside each time and showing it to them but, well, it sure makes sense. Fortunately I haven't ever had an issue with poops in the house. I just have one ninja pee-er who's too lazy yet to ask to go out so I have to watch him very closely. He always gets me after lights out though

Typically your suppose to use a kennel that's only big enough for them to stand, sit and turn around in when your crate training. What we did was take ours out every 20 minutes and every time they peed or pooped we praised them and gave them a treat for positive reinforcement, they associate the peeing n pooping outside with getting a treat. If she poops inside, scold her sternly. It takes awhile but she will get it so keep trying.

Thanks for the input everyone. Today was the first day where Jersey pooped outside 3 times (morning just after breakfast, afternoon, and just after supper) with no accidents inside! Keep your fingers crossed for us
