I posted this on FB so a lot of you will see it there. But we got a new kitty Saturday and I just wanted to post a video of how Deacon acts with her and get your all's opinion. I'm just wondering if he is ever going to calm down around her or not? My goal is for her to be able to walk around the house as she pleases without Deacon wanting to chase her every time she moves. You can see in the video how fixated he becomes on her as soon as she moves/jumps. It's been 5 days with no change whatsoever. I'm keeping her regardless unless things become worse and I just don't think she's happy here, but she's part of the family now so I'm going to give things plenty of time to see what happens. I guess I'm just hoping for some that have had a similar situation to tell me it gets better and ease my mind! haha! I've tried everything I know to do and can't get him to leave her alone unless I just put him in the crate, which isn't really helping or teaching him anything, it's just to give me and the cat a moment's peace lol. Any opinions/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks much, everyone!

How cute. The kitty doesn't look fazed at all lol
My guess is he will eventually calm down once he gets used to her being around. Right now he probably thinks she is his new play toy. The novelty will wear off. By the looks of it, I think the new kitty is gonna be the boss! Congrats on the new addition! |

Things will be fine. Looks like kitty is gonna rule the roost.

We have a 16 yr old cat who for the first 3 years she was our only fur baby. Upon returning to the US, we got our first dog Maggie. Patch (the cat) wanted nothing to do with Maggie when we first brought her home (Maggie was 3 months old). Maggie would chase Patch but always in a playful way & eventually they became friends. Patch would curl up on Maggie's bed with her & sleep. When we bought Pheona into the house, Patch again wasn't sure about this. But she dealt with it. Pheona thought the cat was a moving toy but as Pheona got older she realized that she couldn't have the cat no matter what so she now leaves her alone. Now it's Murphy's turn to the think the cat (who weighs a whopping 6 pounds) is a moving toy. We stand up for Patch & it's funny to watch Pheona come between the 2 of them when Murphy bothers Patch (Maggie did the same thing when Pheona used to bother the cat). Needless to say, eventually they will either get along or learn to just coexist.

Should of asked, does the kitty still have front claws?? Your pup will learn quickly not to mess with the kitty if it does. Murphy tried to play with my cousins cat & she got her good as the kitty still has claws & she's used to the fact that ours doesn't. LOL

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! You have no idea how awesome it makes me feel to see so many agreeing that eventually things will be alright lol. Church (our new kitty) is extremely confident! I've never seen anything like it lol. She isn't scared of him at all, she stands her ground lol. And yep, she does still have front claws and she's swiped Deacon a couple times so he knows now not to get too close lol. And thank you all for the compliments on Deac!
