Question "All Day In The House" training...1yr old puppy!

My boxer Shelby is previously crate trained and with my old job, I was able to come home on lunch and let her out, and then I was also home early enough so that she wasn't in the crate for hours on end. However, I am starting a new job in January where I will not be available to come home and feed her/let her out to potty.

Do any other boxer owners leave your dogs loose in the house all day? I would NOT put her in her crate all day long and expect her to be happy and healthy. NO WAY! Is there a specific thing I should be training her for or doing to help her transition?

At the moment, financially, I am unable to put her in puppy daycare.

Any suggestions?

I cannot leave Rosco in the house, he eats the blinds and doorknob. But I agree, definitely cannot leave him in the crate all day long. Im sorry! I have no advice bc I don't work anymore and am pretty much always home. Do u have any close neighbors or friends who could stop by and let him out?

Is there an area in the house that you could perhaps confine Shelby to start with, say the kitchen or a den or some part of the house like that? If so, make sure you start doing so prior to January when you start your new job so she gets the hang of it. Also, be sure to "dog proof" the area, i.e. kitchen, put locks on cabinets that have cleaning supplies, remove anything you don't want broken or eaten, push things to the back of the counter out of reach, take trash can out of the area if you're gonna use kitchen etc.

What about a dog walker? They can be cheaper than daycare. We did both with Cruz and the dog walker comes and takes him to the off leash park for a full our ion the middle of the day with a bunch of other dogs.. plus the car ride there and back Cruz is out of the house for hours while I am at work... $15 a day.

I leave mine now for the day but he is no longer crated. I'm also looking for options since my senior boxer recently died. I feel bad that porter no longer has company.

I leave all three of mine plus my SIL lab home lose all day but they are 13 (lab) 5,4,3 for the boxer pack I am most likely cursing myself here but they haven't had a major ninja visit in almost a year my SIL lab is my chewer she got my moccasins the other night stole them out of an un lidded shoe box and she will steal undies if not locked in a box and has just started on socks but other than that they are good I will tell you at first we had frequent ninja visits but they have all but disappeared

If you live in a house with a yard consider putting in a doggy door. They work wonders for cases such as these. I leave mine out and we have small ninja problems. Magazines, papers etc that get left out. Other then that they are good. I never leave them longer then 8 hours at a time. We havent gotten the doggy door yet because we have a pool and they tend to get in it and run through the dirt and track mud etc onto the carpet. We plan on putting in all tile but we havent yet. Mine are 3 and 3.5 yrs old however.
