Boxer thinks she's a lapdog

My 17 week old female boxer thinks she's a lapdog. We got her from the breeder at 9 weeks. DH put her on the couch with us on her first night and now I guess it's a habit. She does have her own bed next to the couch and she uses it frequently, and she also is crate trained. She sleeps in her crate at night with no problems at all, and goes willingly to her crate if we have to go out during the day. Her crate is in the same room as our couch and her bed.

But, by far her favorite place is up on the couch sitting or sleeping in our laps! Is this typical behavior for a boxer? I know that they are very devoted to their families.

It's more than typical...it's part of the boxer trait that makes them so endearing. Boxers have a very real need for close contact with their people. If you want to enjoy the full boxer experience, I'd not force the pup away.

My 2 are always up on my lap. Pheona every once in a while will climb up to actually sit on me but for the most part, she'll just put her front 2 paws up on my lap & then lay her head on my leg. Of course she gets tons of lovin' while she's laying like that. Then again she gets lots of love all the time. Now Murphy will just jump right up on my lap. It was so nice in bed cuddled with them both this morning. Hubby had to go back to work so when he got up to go to the gym, I took Murphy out to potty (our normal time to get up when school is in) & then we cuddled in bed. Pheona was already in bed. We slept then till hub came in from the gym.

Nikki is 10 months now and loves my lap!! She likes to curl up in between my legs! Lol. I love it. As soon as I sit down she is right there :-) I think she would stay curled up on my lap day and night if she could. I'm getting another pup soon.... Should be interesting to see how they share my lap lol.

If I'm on the couch, mine are glued to my lap.

Here is one where they both were fully laying on me, but usually they just lay their heads and chest on my lap. Lol. My legs lost feeling when I took this picture!

Thanks everyone, for your replies! I don't mind at all when she is up on the couch sitting in my lap, it's our cuddle time. It sounds like this is a boxer trait.

then there is this little 20lb poodle/terrier mix that I have that refuses to let me hold him for long...

I'm spoiled with my girls!
