My 1 year old boxer is close to being given away because of her behavior. Every day shes aggressive with us if we ignore her. If you try having a conversation with someone, she will bark, loudly. Like she is jealous of us talking. No one can walk down my hallway without her darting, lunging, punching me and growling she will stand on her two hind legs and literally punch you with both front paws, really hard.. If you don't play with her, she will bark, dart at you, get really a ferocious growl going.. In the mornings, while I sit and have coffee, she will jump up, nibble at me, use her paws/arms to punch me, claw at me, so everyone here is getting pretty sick of it. She gets her exercise but is still like this.
What do I do? What can I buy? Do I need to invest in a crate? Her punishment has been getting chained up to the coffee table by a leash because she wont stop jumping on you when you try to relax. Is this a bad idea? Thank you for your time. |

Is she spayed? Did you took her to an Obedience Class? Boxers do better when they have another dog to play with.
Whoever have a Boxer need to invest in Obedience Classes and training. It is going to take few years for a Boxer calm down. Also, yes, you need a crate and crate train her. I just have a 8 weeks old and I would not bring him home without having a crate for him. Last edited by JuanaMPA; 02-23-2013 at 11:02 AM. |

Your dog sounds bored. Are these physical activities happening every day or just a couple times a week or month? Remember that mental stimulation is just as important as physical stimulation. Try investing in a treat puzzle ir signing up for obedience classes. Your dog sounds pretty demanding which is typical of the boxer breed. You should be taking them out for walks every day sometimes more than once a day.
This is unfortunately pretty typical of boxers. Many end up in a shelter because owners are unprepared for them. Hie old is your dog? That could also play a factor in the behavior. But I highly recommend d obedience classes. If you still cannot handle your dog please think about contacting your local boxer rescue. Don't just dump them off at a shelter...

Welcome from NJ
Boxers are very high energy dogs. You say she gets out (beach, park, etc) but for how long and how often? Mental stimulation ( training ) can actually be more tiring than physical exercise. Have you enrolled her in any obedience classes? Don't take offense, but by her acting that way- she is telling you she is bored and not getting enough exercise. We would literally spend hours, I mean hours tiring ours out at that age. How about doggie daycare once or twice a week? That will help drain some energy. |

I had the same questions as above, have you done training classes? does she get to play with other dogs often? What are her toys like? .... Im just asking not accusing but do you stimulate her mentally??? .. Maybe play hide and seek? you or with toys? ... Also part of it is her age.
I hope that you are able to figure something out! |

I have to agree with all of the above. Your pup sounds totally bored. I told my husband that I'm going to invest in a treadmill for our girls in the summer. It gets way to hot here in TX. LOL Get your pup into an obedience class, try some hide & seek style games and you won't believe the difference.

She sounds bored. Crate training, in my opinion, is a must. Although at 1 year that ship may have sailed How much exercise is she getting?

What I do is take a toy (usually one we can put a treat in) & will show it to my girls. Then I take it & hide it (under some blankets, their bed, under the corner of the coffee table, end table, etc) and tell them to find it. We also play the game of find dad when he comes home. He will sneak in & hide (in the closet, the bathroom, the top of the stairs, laundry room, in the dog kennel...got pics of that). They will then race through the house sniffing him out. They do awesome with it. It is quite funny to watch.
