OK so Duke has developed an odd quirk. He is VERY food motivated when it comes to training, which is good. And normally, if there's a treat in our hands he is mesmerized by it and follows commands instantly.
However, we noticed that he will only "lay down" if he is on a rug or soft surface. If he is on hardwood, tile or concrete he just stands there looking at us, dumbfounded. And recently he started doing the same when asked to sit. At first I thought he was being stubborn so I insisted with him and as I was giving the command to sit he started to walk backwards. At first I was getting upset and wondering why he wasn't listening... then he reached the rug in our kitchen by the sink (all the while backing up) and as soon as his back paws touched it he sat! I didn't know whether to scold him our burst out laughing! Does anyone else's dog do this? Or is mine just a little wacky? lol |

Yes! He hates to "down" on hard floors, we recently pulled up our carpet too, poor baby. And I don't even ask him to roll over on the hard floors anymore because I know is sensitive lol! I trained my neighbors dog and if I would tell her down she would run over the the floor mat and THEN lay down, grr lol! Little turd!

Awe, poor baby. Well, don't feel bad, I have one that actually looks for my senior golden retriever dog to sit on when given the hand signal to sit. I kid you not, if Flash is on the hardwood or laminate flooring, and I give the dogs a command to sit, she will find Titan, straddle his back and sit like its all perfectly normal. Her mother does this to daddy dog often but never when we give the sit command, just randomly like her bum hurts too much to sit on the ground lol. I have no idea where she picked this up but Titan doesn't seem to mind it and its sort of too funny to make her stop doing it.
