So we've let this lag a bit longer than maybe it should have but we've finally enrolled Duke in training classes!
They had an opening to start this Thursday at 6 pm but with the holidays coming up and having 2 kids that need to come along with us to the classes, we thought a weekend class would be best. So we start on Sunday Jan 20th for an 8 week course. He'll be 7 months old by then... I'm mostly interested in getting Duke to stay, stop him from pulling on his leash when we're out for walks and have him not react to other dogs walking by. Sometimes he's fine but other times he pulls like mad to get to the dogs going by when we're walking. He's getting bigger, stronger and harder to control too! Wish us luck! hehe |

Mom2Jax&Bay - we do have an easy walk harness and it does help (except when he sees another dog, cat or squirrel! lol). But I find it is giving him harness burn (I don't know what else to call it) under where his front legs meet his chest (his "armpits"? lol). AND he still pulls if we put his regular collar on, so obviously he's not "learning" anything from the easy walk harness. So hopefully training will help with this.

Congrats! We just took Bruno to his first puppy class at Petsmart on Sunday (at 11 weeks). They give you a little schedule of what is covered at each class and I was surprised. The beginning class pretty much covers everything I could think of, so no idea what intermediate and advanced ones will cover (but he's going anyway lol).

You will be amazed at how quickly they pick it up. We just graduated an intensive training classes today. January we go into Grade 2 where we will learn everything just taught but it's off leash plus a few extras!
Just remember to keep practising! Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

Wyatt has his third class tonight! First night was easy basically name recognition, sit and the dreaded "down". He would lay for me or either trainer! The day after his first class he got neutered so last week was awful plus I had strep throat... No fun! But he will now do a down and a down stay for 30 seconds... Supposed to be a full minute but it's a huge improvement of the 0 second stay he was giving me before! We are going to petco for classes.... How are you liking the petsmart classes for those of you who go to those ones? Curious how they run theirs!

We did Petsmart classes with Pheona. We did from beginner up to advance & even did a trick class. From what you said above, it sounds like what we did. I'm thinking all the instructors are trained the same & then have a book to go by with with they are to teach. I loved our instructor we had & we will be starting Murphy after the holidays. I have all of our handouts from Pheona so I think we will do the beginner & then work on the rest ourselves unless she proves to be a handful. LOL
