Ryleigh absolutely hates her crate!!!! She is only in it for 3 hours in the morning Monday-Friday and occasionally if we go out to dinner or something. When I put her in it she screams, howls, bites the bars, and today I can home to a ripped up bed with stuffing everywhere. I could hear her howling from my driveway!!!! I've tried coaxing her in with treats and leaving her for a few minutes then repeating and increasing the length of time...nothing works. I hate that she gets so stressed out but I don't have anywhere else to leave her while I'm gone in the mornings. Will she grow out of it? She is the BEST behaved puppy except for this issue.

First of all if she is tearing up her pads leave them out of the crate. You can do some research (since I dont know which ones) to find one that she cant tear up if you feel the need to leave one in. It wont hurt her to not have one.
Secondly try using a phermone diffusor and rescue remedy. They work wonders and helped my Jaxon very well. No SA anymore here. They are fairly expensive but I found them cheaper on DR's foster and smith. Cheaper then the pet store I mean, Also if you arent using a treat filled Kong you should check into one. They will help as well. Also put her in the crate when you are home for a bit at a time. So she doesnt automatically think you are leaving her. Ignore her after you put her in and dont ever let her out when she is making noise. When you let her out if she starts whining or barking stop and walk away. Start with short periods of time in the crate while you are there. Walk into another room, outside but just for short times. It takes time but it does work. These methods are tried and true. I hired a trainer to help with Jaxon and it took a few weeks. Good luck. Robin |

Yup, agreed.
You can also google 'crate games';there are tons of little things you can do make her feel better about the crate. You have to get her to think of it as her safe place...it takes a bit of time but stick with it Good luck! |
