Hey guys, I need some advice on this potty training thing Frankie's now 5 months old and we crate train him and he does great at night. The problem is when he's out of the crate no matter how many times I take him out. (Which is every hour, after a nap, and after feedings) he still pees on the floor. No poop, just pee. And it's so random. I'll take him out and see him go a couple of times then he follows me up stairs and pees again or he sneaks into other rooms and pees. Also I notice he doesn't pee all of the way when he goes outside the first time. He goes 2 or 3 times before he comes and sits next to me to let me know he's done. We also have a doggy door which he uses and i've seen him go potty outside when he does. But then sometimes he'll go outside the doggy door then comes in and pees right in front of the door. I praise him and give him treats when he goes outside. And have tried to ignore it when he goes inside. He knows the command outside also and goes straight outside when I tell him so I don't know what else to do. Will he just grow out of this? Ugh so frustrating. He's so perfect in every way if we could just get this peeing thing down thing would be awesome lol

Have you checked with the vet to make sure his plumbing is working properly? Wondering if he may not be marking, running around saying this is mine, this is mine, this is mine, oh...I like that as well. Maybe time to talk to the vet about neutering.
We had a puppy that was regressing on potty training once, we just took him down to a puppy play area and a single room. Didn't take long form him to get back on track. Sent from Petguide.com Free App |

Hmm...Murphy is 6 months & has finally been accident free for about a month now. She's gotten a lot better at letting us know when she has to go outside as well. When he does potty outside are you praising him or treating him telling him good boy??? We still go out with Murphy, tell her to go potty & after she's gone we praise & even treat. I wish you the best, I know boxers are stubborn.

I find that if I say anything or move like I'm gonna pull out a treat while mine is in mid stream he will end it earlier wanting his treat. Now I don't move a muscle or say a peep until he is all done. Sounds like when yours goes outside he is anticipating the reward and not finishing. Just takes patience and consistency. Your pup will get there. Good luck!

I agree, wait till he's fully done going to say anything. We wait till Murphy is done & then praise. She knows with the good praise that she'll be getting a yummy treat.

Also I really think the prob is the doggie door. It's just my opinion because I don't have one and I hate them :/ but I control when my dogs go out and make them come to me and ask to go out, and then watch them every second of every time they are out. My 8 yr schnauzer HAS to be watched like a hawk when she's out because she will just choose not to go but act like she is because she knows as soon as she comes in she is going to eat or get a treat. I think later on down the road doggie door may be good, and I dk how you would stop it now and now not confuse him but I just don't like it during potty training. I also think maybe tieing him on a leash next to you would be a good idea - having him hooked to your belt loop - that way you know when he has to go and he's not sneaking off and peeing somewhere. I know every dog is diff and some take longer than others but we have a 10 mo old and we crate trained, don't have a doggie door, watched like a hawk and haven't had any accidents since he was about 13 or 14 wks. I think we had a total of 5-6 accidents the whole time

I always praise and treat him and I have been worried about the doggy door. Our other dog uses it so I worry if I put the cover on the he'll get confused lol. Maybe I'll just have to cover the doggy door and start all over.
