Default First Time Dog Parent

Good Morning!

My husband and I adopted our boxer Rocky about a month ago. I've never had a dog before and he's only ever had farm dogs, so I am excited to learn new things. I'm looking forward to being involved on these forums.

Rocky is 10 months old and kind of a mess but I think that's partly on us not knowing what we are doing. We have started school with him and are hopefully making progress.

Welcome! good looking Pup you have there! You're found a great place for good advice/tips. It'll be a few weeks yet before i officially have a Boxer pup, but I've already learned a lot! Good luck!

If anyone happens to read this, can you help me know if my pup has separation anxiety or is just a puppy or some of both? I've always had cats and they've always been easy. We are in this for life with Rocky, but we also have full-time jobs and are wondering the best ways to make the transition.

We brought our baby Talos home last night. We have 3 cats and he is our first pup. I'm so nervous that I'm going to make mistakes. I just want him to have the perfect life

Congratulations on adopting. It takes time. Training is good and it will teach you how to tach him how to walk sit stay or basically train but you will need to continue it at home. I would crate him when he cannot be supervised but that too may take some time. He is new and probably still bit scared. I'd feed him in his crate and give yummy treats in it at first with the door open, later closing it. Jeff Gellman has some good videos and is ding a free Skype session. Google him, as first time dog owner you may find him helpful. There is much to learn just remember consistency and schedule. I still feed all my guys at the same time each ay and we walk 2xx day too usually at the same same time. Out in the morning bed at night same time. We are like a clock, lol but thats e and my dogs are comfortable.

Oh another just got a puppy thread?? And three cats how did that go???

And a tip don't let the puppy chase the cats ... put a small blanket down for him and let the cats come to him if they choose. If the cats want to leave let them do so. Just pick the puppy up and say "no chase." Don't worry if he does not get it for awhile eventually he will. Welcome Aboard.
