Hi everyone, I am a Boxer owner from Miami, FL with a 4 year old Boxer. She is kinda small for a boxer, weighs only 34 pounds, I have several problems with her she's been having a rash in most of he lower part (chest and belly area) for years, and she is really skinny I tried all types of food and nothing, you can see her rib cage. I've been going to vets, and they have no clue on both issues, she is happy like she has always been, and energetic. I found this forum and I am trying to see if I can get some help here since this is driving me crazy. Please HELP!

Welcome from NJ
I'm sure we'll all be more than willing to try and help you, but will need a lot more info. Pics of rash? Foods you have tried? Brands? Tests your vet has already run? Pics of how skinny she is? Pooping okay? Firm? soft? |

Here are the links for the pics of my dog. I have given her wilderness, eukanuba, alpo, Iams, nutrish and some others I can't remember. I have kept her eating dry food. As for the tests from the vet I can't remember but do you suggest any specific test? The vet told me to try benadryl or cortisone but nothing worked. The pooping is firm and not dark or to light. Her energy is normal, she is playful and loving.

She has always had the rash?
Is the rash only on her underside? How much time does she spend outside? What type of flea/tick preventative do you use? Is she itchy? Does she scratch at her ears? Have you fed a grain free kibble? ( She might have a food allergy) Have parasites / worms been ruled out by a stool sample at vet? Is her appetite good? Or is she a picky eater? More questions to come (based on answers) - sorry, not easy to help without tons of info. |

I understand you need a lot of info and I am grateful that you are trying to help. She got the rash when she was around a year and a half old. The rash is only on her underside. She is more indoor dog but she has time in our backyard that doesn't have plants or grass everyday. The backyard floor has pavers. The flea and tick shampoo is the only preventive that we use. She is not itchy not even on the ears. The wilderness is pure protein. She has no parasites nor worms and she is under heart guard plus as preventive. She is a picky eater. Any suggestions so far. By the way she gets little bumps with pus in the red area of the ash like pimples, but it doesn't hurt her if we pet her in that area.

The rash sounds a bit like Impetigo (more common in puppies), but here's a link to it- see if you think it fits the description.
Impetigo in Dogs - VetInfo Then we'll have to work on the weight issue. |

That is all from allergies my moms boxer went through all the same things and looked the same way. She used medicated shampoo and put plain yogurt on her food. We also fed puppy food instead of adult because its high in calories. Hope that helps you
