Hello,
Were new to the forum and lookig for support. We just lost a 5 year old female to cancer. It hit her out of no where so fast and we were not prepared to handle this. Were asking for some help on how to handle this grieving process. We believe our male is pretty lonley how do we know when it's a good time to get him a playmate another member of the family? Thank you for your help |

Everyone grieves differently. I know when we lost Maggie (also from cancer that we found way to late...no symptoms), I had the hardest time. I spent days where all I did was cry, I'd hold Pheona & we'd both cry. It seemed to affect me more than my husband & my boys. I had days where I would stay in jammies & do nothing. We lost Maggie 22 August & by mid September we welcomed another boxer (Murphy) into our house. Pheona was heartbroken knowing Maggie was here & then gone. She's been happy again since we brought Murphy home.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We just lost our senior rescue to cancer on Dec 6. Winston wasn't even acting very sick, just a bit lethargic but he was 10 -13 by our vet's estimate. I went for routine bloodwork which showed high white count which led to x rays and ultrasound where they found an intestinal tumor. In believably he was gone 5 days later. Like Maggie's mom I have taken it harder than my husband. Winnie was a mama's boy. I stayed in bed for days. I still cry often. I miss him so much. I think in the spring we are going to get a white boxer puppy in honor of my boy. I know my porter 17 mos, misses his Winnie too.

I think we're going to get a white boxer pup, this time a little lady and name her Fiona, Gaelic for white or fair. Hope you don't mind pheona's mom? Anyway thinking about a new pup in the spring helps me with my grief. I'm just not ready yet though.

I don't mind at all. I think it's a beautiful name. My boys loved the movie Shrek & that is where her name came from. Only thing, I love odd spellings so I played with the spelling of her name.

So sorry for your loss. I agree that everyone grieves in their own way. I think it will just be whatever you are comfortable with in terms of getting another sibling for your male pup.
