Boxer lover in NY
Hello first let me introduce my self. My name is Gordon. I live in upstate, NY. My wife and I have two dogs. Our first dog is a Boxer. Her name is Roxy. She is now 8 years old. We got her as a puppy when she was only 8 weeks old. My wife and I decided to get a puppy shortly after we purchased our home. We searched for the perfect puppy. I would look at puppies on line @ findpuppy.com and when I wasn't looking she was. Then one day we were talking about it and I said that I saved a photo of a puppy I wanted to show you. My wife said that was funny because she save one to show me too. She let me pull up the picture of the pup I saved and when she saw her she started to laugh. I said whats so funny? She said thats the same dog I was going to show you. Well I said it was ment to be then. I called and talked to the breeder to see if she was still available and after working out the arrangements we had her flown on an airplane to come live with us. We picked her up at the airport. We took her out of the creat and she was just this beautiful little cone head puppy. She wasn't scared or anything very full of her self and confident. My wife and I after about a year later were got to talking about the possiblity of getting a second boxer. We had a small savings set aside and were looking at pups again. Then we put things on hold for a bit because we were getting ready for our vaction. We decided to go low budget and use my sister in laws camp as our vaction spot for the week. We were just about to the camp when my wife spotted a sign on the side of the road with a dog crate that said free puppies. She talked me into turning around to see what kind of puppies they were. After all it was mean to have them in a crate along side a road (as she put it.) I knew that if I turned the car around we were going to have another dog even if it wasn't another boxer. Sure as to my words. We ended up with black lab puppy. She was the last one in her litter to be picked she was the only one left in the crate. We took her home with us. So with this little story of how she came to live with us is how she got her name. Her name is Roady. Roady is 7 years old now. As a puppy it was touch and go with her. She was very difficult to house train let alone take her for a walk on a leach. Before I gave up on her I decided to seek help from a professional dog trainer. This was by far the best decision I have ever made for a dog in my life. The trainer had me bring her to him and do an intence work out with her for 6 weeks. I had to leave her with him and then I had to come and visit the last weekend and go through a training as well. This worked like magic she was a completely different dog from that point on. Our relationship has grown into one that I never thought would happen in a million years. She is the most loyal dog to me that I have ever had. She is my shadow. No matter where I am in the house she is never too far away. In fact as I sit here typing this she is laying at my feet. When I come home from work she gets insulted if I don't say hello to her first. She even does a special cry and dance when I come home. My wife cracks up because she is the one who pointed it out to me. Don't get me wrong I love both my dogs, but for very different reasons. The Boxer she is very much a watch dog ( don't mess with the family while she is on watch.) She is also very confident, playful and very smart. It makes me sad when I stop and think about her age and look at her face. She is becoming very gray in the face. It certainly will be a very sad day in our house when god decides its her time. Even though she is getting older and grayer she is as playful as she was when she was just a pup just a tad slower. Its very sad that this breed has such a short life span from what I have read they average about 8-10 years. So our time here on earth is only borrowed we must cherrish every moment like its the last. Well I hope you have enjoyed my stories of my two dogs and I hope to make some friends here.
Gordon.
