Default New Boxer Puppie(Benjamin)

So I decided to come home a few weeks ago with a 11 week old Brindle Boxer(Benjamin) to accompany our 4 year old Chocolate Lab and 4 year old Shitz-su. It was definitely a struggle to get the GF to let me bring home a new dog as she wants to get married and have children in the next year or two. But I still went ahead and brought home the puppy. As I pulled up she peaked her head into the garage to see if I got one and then she proceeded to to close the garage door and walk the other way. Once I walked into the home with this cute pup, within seconds she said, "let me see him, he's so damn adorable!"

After a few reckless nights in the crate and having to insert EAR plugs into our ear so we can sleep, he finally got adjusted and begun to sleep through the night. He loves playing with the chocolate lab and they already love each other to pieces. The Shitz-su on the other hand growls and barks at him because she's having a hard time loosing all the attention. They are slowly warming up to each other.

Keeping in mind he already had two series of vaccinations, after having him for three days he woke up one morning not being himself. We took him to the Vet(Conejo Valley Vet Hospital) and they did an exam on him. Since he was not eating they tried giving him baby food and he ate it up within seconds. They said he looks fine and told us to give him baby food for a few days to settle his stomach. We got home and gave him a can of baby food. He started becoming his normal self and was running all over the house with the lab that evening. He woke up again the next morning not feeling like himself again but also just wanting to sleep all day with no appetite. We took in a stole sample and w got a call from the Vet about 3 hours later and it came back that he had Giardia. We then took him to the vet that night and again the vet said everything looks and feels fine except for the Giardia, which doesn't explain why he's not eating. The Vet said I think we should do a blood panel. All his results came back great. The Vet recommended that we did one last exam even though his white blood count was great and normal;she wanted to check him for parvo. The exam came back that he had a severe case of Parvo.

After finding out he had Giardia and Parvo, at this point I was pissed but also concerned that we were going to loose our new baby. The VET did all these exams not thinking about my "wallet" and we soon to find out that he had this virus. She recommended that we check him in and hospitalize him and presented me with an invoice for three days for $3600. They asked for me to put a 50% deposit which I was very unhappy about and they said we will quarantine him and connect him to IV an antibiotics for three days because of how severe his case was. I called the VET around midnight to see how he was doing and they said he was alert and moving around. I forgot...that I had a friend who is a VET and runs a very successful and amazing hospital in Westlake Village called Westlake Village Veterinarian Hospital. I gave him a call and told him my issue. He told me to pull him out of there the next morning and bring him to me, I'll take great care of him, and he said $3600 is outrageous and thats out of this world. I picked him up the next morning at Conejo Valley Pet Hospital and the vet said he did great throughout the night. I brought him to Westlake Village Pet Hospital and saw Daniel Slaton. He said lets leave him here for the day and night attached to his IV and antibiotics an we'll re-access him the next day which is a saturday and he was off. But he said, "I'm going to come in to check on your dog to see if I can release him." What an amazing VET, right?? Anyways I picked him up Saturday afternoon and he's doing phenomenal for over a week now. Dr. Slaton wanted me to bring him in 4 days later and I did. He gave me the report that he's looking real good and keep him on his special food for a week that they provided and finish off all of his meds.

He's been out of the hospital now for about 9 days and he is being a total lunatic just like any puppy would. Were enjoying every little bit about him, but now the obedience and potty training has been a struggle. More to come in the training and behavioral forum.

Thanks for reading and look forward to hearing and meeting boxer people
Matt and Lindsey
