Default Might be moving-mixed emotions.

Was always planning on moving it seems it has come up WAY earlier than expected.

My pension as it sits right now is substantial, but in NY with the inflation rate it has always been and will continue to be it will be moderate to peanuts 10 years from now.

Ok here's the brass tacks. My mom has some health issues so even though she's only in her early 60's I need to get it to where she doesn't have to work again so the original thoughts were the Carolina's or Florida BUT.....

My aunt Mary was recently RIF'd, a fancy way of saying layed off. She owns the house I rent an apartment in which is also the house I grew up in. Well with issues with my moms employer, change in health plans yada yada she may be retiring as well before the end of the year.

Now my aunt has been talking about moving to PA. Was NOT on my list of places I was planning on moving to possibly BUT since it would put my mom closer to her sister and she called today to mention it to me to see how I'd feel about I of course agreed.

The mixed feelings I have are because I was in the middle of securing all of the costs of my expensive hobbies and then was going to save for 3 years to have a substantial down payment when we did move. I now have to squeeze in finishing paying for my retardedly expensive hobby costs, clean up my shot credit AND try to save up a decent down payment quickly. AHHH!!!

It will all be worth it I guess when I see her in a house we both like, with no mortgage or other house expenses for once and it will still be close enough to Long Island to where I can spend a fair amount of time here visiting with friends and if I wanted to stay overnight instead of driving home I'd have a few places to stay. Also my other aunt and my cousin live where we would be looking for houses. Besides this way I guess it'll pay off because I could guilt trip her into washing and waxing my car for me....ya know ma my car would t get this dirty if we moved to where I wanted to BUUUT since SOMEONE had to live in PA my truck gets filthy. HEHE

Anyway, just felt like venting a bit.

Here's my view on it:
My sister is in NC and my mom in FL. - both places are nice to visit, but way too freaking hot to wanna live there year round-lol
PA is cheaper than LI, yet close enough to visit and you can always move south for your golden years if you decide you don't like it.

All valid points Lynne

I was stationed in Texas in the Army. I can take the heat but in ways I'd rather shovel snow. It's just when you get thrown in one direction and then it gets spun around and twisted you have to rewrap your head around it.

I'm finding the idea harderthan the other places because with them I knew I was going to be far away. One of my biggest well my biggest interest after my girls is extremely high powered cb radio systems and have a lot of friends I talk to on a regular basis.

I have a regular group of guys that we all talk and bs on a nightly basis, so to know I'm only an hour and change from there but can't talk to them is going to be weird.

I don't know. I think again its just that as we get older sudden changes seem more drastic is all.

Agghhhh! Leaving before we met!? Well, you're not old but it IS a drastic change. Long Island is absurdly expensive. Hubby and I hope to retire to the Adirondacks. I grew up in South Florida and don't want to go back. Pennsylvania is at least close. You and the girls can always crash with us and visit.

DH and I currently live in GA (have for 28 years for DH's work - not fans, although parts of it are very pretty), and we can't WAIT to move back to FL when DH retires! We love warm weather (DH grew up in Sarasota - south of FL, and we met at FSU in Tallahassee during college)! Of course, if you're used to the north, I can see you thinking either NC or FL as being torture in the summer, weather-wise. Actually, in the mountains, NC is very pleasant during the summer, and actually has cold winters, complete with snow and skiing.

Sounds like PA might be a good compromise for you (but I can't imagine surviving a winter there - lol!).

Not sure exactly where but somewhere between the Mt.Bethel and East Stroudsburgh areas, most likely.

NOOO!!!! Molly I wouldn't do that. This is gonna be at least 6 months from now. I told mom I needed at least that to finish this endeveur I'm into right now and get my credit straight. I say sooner than I thought because I was planning on saving for about 3 years before moving.

Nah I would have been able to deal with the heat on the most part. But I'm with you, they have hard core winters in PA!!!! Lol

I'm certainly not a religious freak or anything, but I do feel there's some sort of higher power with a plan. Sometimes the curveballs, especially the ones that "make sense" even though they're unexpected, end up working out better than imagined. Sometimes you just gotta say a quick prayer, close your eyes and jump. It's easy to do when you're young 'cuz it's "reckless" and people kind of expect it from you, but when you get older it's harder to do. I think, though, that as adults we sometimes miss out on life 'cuz we get TOO responsible. I'm married to Mr. Responsibility which is great but sometimes a drag. He got really sick a couple years ago and he came within about 10 minutes of dying. Nine days in ICU and he's still Mr. Responsibility but with a healthier perspective of what's really important. We still have plans for the future, but now we live a little more day-to-day and see where life takes us. It's worked out okay so far, and he's happier for it.
