I got him from Austin Boxer Rescue. I've gotten all three of my boxers from them. He is what they call a Silver Heart - over 10 years old. I've had two Silver Hearts, Bruno whom I have now and Mr. Howard who passed two years ago. I also had my Tala whom I got when she was six and passed from cancer in November at age 12. I think next go round, I'll foster cause they always need fosters - what rescue doesn't?! - and I'm not getting any younger. Tinkerbelle, my Yorkie is 14 and failing fast. I'll be surprised if I get to have her much longer.

He's learned to use it to get on the bed now instead of jumping but he won't go down it; prefers to jump down. I wish he wouldn't. That's how ACLs get torn! So I tried crating him at night so I could sleep. That's a big NO! This week he started howling in his crate ALL NIGHT LONG and then he vomited up dinner. 4 nights in a row. He does fine in the crate when I leave the house for more than an hour but not at night. Very strange. So, he's back to the bed at night. But thankfully, he seems to have learned to go to the foot of the bed at first and then sneak his way back up after I've fallen asleep cause I'll wake about 3:00 am and there's a boxer boy leaning on my back. Doesn't feel very good. So we're still thinking about that and doing some more training with braunschweiger - his favorite (now that I foolishly introduce him to it).

We now also have our beds on the floor so they are easier for the boys to get on and off. It took away a little storage space, but it is better for them as they get older. Better for us too since we have to sit /squat lower to get to the bed- makes us move a little more as we get older. LOL.

It sounds like he really needs to be out at night. They train us well. Some days I wake up sore depending on who sleeps on/next to me and for how long. I figure this helps me age too- I get weight resistance w/o the gym...

It's funny how they are all similar yet distinctly different in personality. It's great that you've rescued the seniors. I'm trying to talk my husband into that as we get older because I know at some point we won't be able to physically control the younger boxers.....while we may not like it or want it, that's a reality as we age.

Oh yes, the seniors are wonderful and they're potty trained!! Hallelujah!

Wish I could put my bed on the floor. Not a possibility for me but sounds like it works well for you.

Just an update about Bruno's hearing. It seems that his hearing was badly affected by the horrible ear infection he had when I got him. I'm annoyed with the foster mom that she didn't have him treated. BUT it seems that his hearing is improved because he hears my commands now and he comes to his name just within this past week! So happy about that. It explains so much of his awkward behaviour since I got him. He's much happier now and not so petrified of my being out of sight.

He went outside by himself today for the first time since I got him Feb 01. He heard the neighbor pitties barking at the fence and ran to the other side far away as fast as he could. First time I've seen him run! I think I'll have a lot of things to learn about this senior now that his REAL personality is coming out.

It's great that his hearing is improving and he's coming out of his shell!
