I would personally want to see more consistent health testing on the dogs they own plus a thyroid panel and test for JRD. Also there is a new law that went into place about shipping puppies over country lines. It is a bit harder to do it now.

I also wouldn't use that for your test. There are tons of good breeders that might not speak to you seriously like that until they get a feel of you in person and see if they think you would be a good candidate to own a dog of theirs. Plus I'm sure most of them think of things automatically such as the dog would be inside because they couldn't think of any other way for it to live.

Before getting our boy I was considering a breeder in Canada. With the recent changes to regulations dog can not be shipped until they have there rabies shots. The earliest a pup can have rabies shots is 4 months but MOST breeders won't give rabies that early. Your more then likely looking at 6 months. Just something to consider. And I agree that just because they didn't ask those types of questions on the first phone interview doesn't mean they aren't reputable. You and your breeder get to know each other better in time.

In Canada the price increases the further West you go. For example in Ontario you are looking any where from $1500-1800 for a puppy from health tested parents. In Alberta its about the same if not slightly higher. In BC however you are looking closer to $2000-2500 for a pup.

As a breeder, if I get an inquiry from a person who has had previous boxer experience, I'm not going to waste my time or there's questioning them on if they have a fenced in yard or own their own home. To be honest this means very little to me. I have some great clients who live in condos or homes with open back yards. They are responsible and know what our breed requires. Also, since I rarely sell to the US it has never crossed my mind to ask if the dog would be living inside or outside. That is more of an American thing for dogs to be kept outside.

Due to recent changes in the US, you can no longer import a puppy prior to 16 weeks of age without proof of the rabies vaccine. This means that the breeder would have to vaccinate the puppy no sooner than 12 weeks of age and then hold the puppy for an additional 30 days after vaccination before that puppy can enter the U.S. This is by plane or by driving over the border.
