Default Caesarian

Hi all

I Bred my female boxer last summer. She had a massive litter of 9 and had to have a caesarian after delivering one herself.

I was wondering if she would have to have another caesarian if bred again as if so i dont think i would put her through it. The KC rules state after 2 caesarians you are no longer allowed to breed so this has kinda put me off the idea of breeding her again.

Also is one year long enough to wait between litters or what is recommended?

Thanks

Unless she and the sire has had all the health screenings and produces superior pups I wouldn't put her thru it again at all.

Since at least one of her pups is having possible kidney issues you most definitely need to consider not having any more litters. As advised above, you need to have in depth health testing done on the parents before breeding them.

Lindar - she has a champion bloodline and produced brilliant pups however one has had a renal issue so far which is yet to be diagnosed properly which has also put me off. Both parents had health tests done previously and was kc. Bred her once as wanted to keep a pup of hers and kept 2 so im happy to not breed her again. Was more curious as to why the kc state two caesarians as after one i would think that would be enough. Thought maybe they wouldnt need caesarian second time or something. Thanks for your advice guys anyway!

brandyball- are you stating that your female and the stud were health tested or your females parents were health tested?

Looking for some clarity here.

Some kidney issues are genetic, you should not breed her again unless you are able to rule out genetics as the issue and proper health testing is done.

We also have some strict rules regarding discussions on breeding, here is a link to the rules for you to review:

2manydogs has posted the necessary health tests that need to be performed before breeding on both male and female. As previously mentioned, this forum takes breeding very seriously (as it should be). A reputable breeder would be knowledgable on how often to breed.

Well i apologise if im not up to your standards in knowledge, however i am not from us and where im from you get mixed information through websites, vets and kennel club re how often so i was asking for advice. I was informed to leave a heat in between breeding which i thought was too short. My genuine reason for breeding was to keep a pup of my dogs as i love her to bits. I kept two pups - both male. One has been castrated which is the one with the renal problem. The other is not and that is because eventually i would like to stud him just to keep a pup of his. The mother has had every relevant health test complete which is why the renal issue stumped me as every other pup was healthy. The sire also had relevant health tests completed which she showed me evidence of and gave her vets details. His litters also had no evidence of renal issues or any other problems.

Hope this clears up any problems my questions may have risen and next time i wont ask as genuinely it was for information purposes and was intrigued for my own knowledge. Yes breeding may be taken seriously and i have no problem with that but i dont see the harm in asking questions.

Thanks anyway!
