Default boxer/breeder info

Hi I am looking to get my first boxer. My mother (nevadagirls) has two, abby and sophie. They are just like my sisters. I have the space, I have the time, I have the money, and I have a good vet. Now I just really need to know what questions to ask breeders and just general boxer things I should know. So I was hoping maybe you guys can help. Any advice would be helpful.

You want proof of having an echo done, holter, and thyroid panel at least. You don't want just a vet check up. Look for show Boxer breeders and you'll be good. Where are you located?

To find a good breeder ( if you don't get any recommendations from here), I would go to a local show and talk to the owner/handlers there (but wait til after they show). You can go to onofrio.com & click on upcoming shows to find one near you. Have your list of questions ready but be as educated as you can be ahead of time. This seems to be a great place to start the learning process.

Jill,

Beware of Autumn Springs Boxers in Jacksonville. Their dogs are quite expensive, $1100 & up. Their contract includes a 2 day window to get your new puppy to the vet. If you don't do this, they void their guarantee and will not replace or refund even if your puppy dies from a congenital disease.

Ok...this may be me just playing devils advocate here but there is nothing wrong with paying $1100 for a puppy "IF" the dogs have been "properly" and throughly health tested and are from strong/healthy breeding lines.

Also, under my contract I had to get Kona to a vet within two days. I think that this is a reasonable request. That way the breeder can be sure that anything that may happen to the puppy was not there when taken home( breeder liability). Lets say new puppy got into some poison ( heaven forbid) a few days after coming home with you....you could then maybe blame the breeder and get your money back when in actuality it was nothing to do with the breeder.

Any who...just my two cents worth
