Default HELP! Pitbull or Boxer?

My husband and I are looking to adopt a new boxer puppy. Contacted a gentleman who has boxer pups for sale (Not AKC registered). Asked for pics of the mom and dad and he sent us the following pictures. Do you think they are both boxers? I am mostly questioning the fawn male with cropped ears but want feedback on both.

That ear crop really gives him a pitty look, but he's a boxer.

These are very clearly, backyard bred pups.....I'd think long and hard about buying one (hint: don't).

They both look boxer and the pup is adorable. A reputable breeder would not breed a white boxer. What you're looking for is health testing done on the parents. I doubt it was done as I agree that it is probably a backyard breeder because of the white parent and lack of papers. I'm curious what he is charging you? If you take that pup you are risking health issues. That being said, she is adorable and I certainly have had a rescue with unknown lineage, no health testing and he was one of the all time loves if my life! I did not purchase him however.

If I plan to give someone money for a dog, at the very least, I'd be looking for hard copies of health testing. And not just a regular vet check-up. The last thing you want to do is bring home a sick puppy!!

For a better idea of health testing to look for, read this thread: https://www.boxerforums.com/breeding-...our-boxer.html

You should read through some of the other posts on this forum under the: "About Boxers and Breeders" sections. There's some great information there.

He is charging $300. So we live in Washington State, and all of the AKC registered boxers for sale are priced between $600 - 1200. Even though it is a backyard pup, we feel it is a fair price considering the humane societies charge $200 - $350 for puppies of any breed (mixed and unknown breeds as well). This way we got to be more positive of the breed by seeing the mom and dad. The gentleman selling the pups isn't identifying himself as a breeder which is good. We don't mind buying a dog that isn't papered, but maybe you can give me pointers as to why it is important to stick with a registered dog and a reputable breeder.

I would not buy this puppy.

In my mind you either pay for the pup now or later. If you pay $300 now you could end up paying thousands later in vet fees because of a genetic issue with your dog (this happens a lot in Boxers). If you spend a bit more now and get a puppy from health tested parents, you're greatly reducing the risk of diseases and issue down the road and an overall healthier and longer life. And this guy is a breeder whether he admits it or not. He bred a litter and is responsible for it.

There's a thread in the Breeding sections about back yard breeding you may want to take a look at.
