Question Help Please! How did you find your breeder?

We've been talking about getting a second boxer, seriously enough to have been trying to find a breeder the past couple months. I've emailed the contact people listed for the Massachusetts (Middlesex) Boxer Club, the RI Boxer Club, and 2 clubs in NY - giving them some information about us / our home / Mya etc - trying to introduce ourselves and address some of those common questions that you would see on an application for a puppy. It's been close to a month and I haven't gotten a single reply yet

I also checked out the breeder links that were on the sticky on this topic but many in our radius weren't valid any longer.

There is definitely a timing for a new pup that works best for us as we have a wonderful dog walker who is available in the summer to fill the gap in the 4 hours the pup would be left alone during the day.

So with that long background ... I'd love any advice on how you found your breeder that you think might be helpful for us or if you know a good breeder in New England - we are in Massachusetts but can easily drive to NY, CT, RI, NH, VT and even eastern PA within a few hours time at most.

We had a pretty bad experience with a non-breed specific rescue when we were looking for Mya so we are a little 'gun shy' to go that route but would love to hear any good recommendations on that front too ... maybe you know of a boxer rescue that you trust?

I have no breeder suggestions in your area, but I can suggest that you make sure the breeder health tests before they breed their pairs. Worth every penny. Do you mind going far for your pup?

Also when you go with boxer specific rescues you get people who know the breed well for example they won't home female boxers in homes with already existing females, and will find homes based on their needs and yours, the boxer rescue I know is really strict on who they adopt their dogs too which is good.

I would consider going farther to know that I'm getting a pup from a good breeder. It's so easy for someone to 'say' on their website that they breed to further the breed and for health ... I've come across one breeder in Ohio (I have family there and I drive back to visit sometimes so another group of states for me to consider) who actually posts links to their health test result from the testing facility which I really liked.

We are only considering a male since we have a female. I think rescues do amazing work and I don't mind opening my home for them to visit, see how we interact, provide our vet info, references, all that good stuff. I do wonder sometimes if sometimes some of the people working for the rescues get maybe a little off track.

We could consider a really good Canadian breeder as well depending on location ... would just have to wait until the pup is 4 mos and had his rabies to be able to pick him up from what I could find on the US CDC website.

If you're looking at Canadian breeders Kaco, and BiancalesBoxers both whom are in Ontario are my picks.

Ontario could definitely be do-able ... I cross northern NY when I drive back to Ohio. I've been checking Kaco's page because of the knowledge and input I've seen on the forum and will check out Biancales too because I know Kaco's spring litters are showing all wait listed at this point.

Thank you!!!!

You are correct. To import a puppy into the US they have to have proof of rabies and be 4 months of age. I can only speak for ourselves but our puppies are spoken for 6-8 months in advance so the chances of us having an older puppy available is slim. Plus I hate giving the rabies vaccine at such a young age.

As for rescues, I would suggest Adopt a Boxer Rescue. They service your area.

I came across this site Winn Creek Boxers Photo Gallery - Home

I don't know anything about them though. I guess you could investigate.
