Default Ratemydogbreeder - Concept

Hey all, just in the middle of creating what could be a really good website. I thought that since everyone have had both good and bad experiences with breeders i thought maybe it would be good to create a site where you can post reviews, comments etc. about breeders in your area so when people come to look for a breeder they can read the various comments and experiences from other dog owners. take a look and let me know what you think. its just in a concept phase right now but i think i will try and release it properly sometime this summer.

Nai -

I understand your concept and for one things its a great idea...however, its one that will never truly work IMO due to the fact that one breeder may be a rave for one person, but not for another. There are so many things that breeders do that people have opinions on. I can look at your site and find a breeder that someone gave a high rating to, then come to find out they never did the proper testing. The person making the review could be uneducated and rate someone as awesome without ever knowing the proper things to look for.

Like my breeder - she has a website but its sooo vague and unless you specifically have a conversation with her, you will find out that she does things that are not mentioned on her site. She also will not sell or place a pup to anyone. So someone could look at my rating of her as high, contact her for a pup that they want on full registration and breeding rights (which she seldom does) and then when or if she says no, rate her bad.

On another site a very good reputable breeder had a little of pups. She took head shots when she was doing their daily weigh-ins. One possible home was sooooo upset at her for taking the head shots as this home sent her a nasty e mail saying that are all set with a pup from her because she took the babies away from the mother. In fact, this new home has no idea what or the importance it is to weight each pup every day and or the proper technique of puppy stimulation. So someone could rate them as bad, when in fact they are a great breeder.

So while I think you concept has the foundation to be good, I do think its unfair to some breeders who may turn people off, and thus create a bad review. Also people can use your site as a reference instead of asking their own questions and trying to find out if this breeder does things right - taking a short cut on finding one. Instead, I think a site that focuses stricktly on how and what to look for in a breeder for specific breeds would be far better than one that is going to be naming names. Its gonna creat a lot of work for you becuase in the many years that I have been on forums, once you bash or a breeder gets bashed, the word gets out, they join and they defend. So good luck!

Hey heather i def see what your saying but also I thinking that instead of people just putting down a rating each person would post their expererience....so that person who didn't like the fact that the breeder took headshots....well she would go on and then add a breeder or reply to an already opened on and write exactly what you wrote....so everyone will be able to read what she thought and most will probably just think she is crazy..everyone is entitled to their own opinion so insteeed of just giving soeomone a score (5/5) you just give a little explanation on why you like etc. like a revew on amazon kinda of thing. i think it would work.....there can be good and bad doesnt matter.people will just give their thoughts...but has to be in a respectable and informative way...if you come out and just bash we can just delete the post etc. what do you think about that. thanks for your opinion thats why im asking. i wanna see if people would actually think its a good idea. i dunno i think it would work tho

people will just give their thoughts
But question - what makes these people qualified to give opinions on such breeders? I mean this is living animals that interact with people family, kids? Not a TV or a refridgerator. If people IMO want to seek out a certain breeder they need to do their *OWN* research, not read a bullitin board on a certain breeder.

The main people you are going to get is BYB supporters, sorry to say it. And if and when you get people supporting those kind of people and you have a handful of reputable breeders on there - the reputable breeders are not going to want their name to be associated with such a site the supports or accept reveiws from breeders not up to their par.

Example. If someone reviews me, on you site as a breeder. Gives me a rave review, but the next thread down someone reviews boxerbarn and give them a same reveiw - awesome good exp. To me, I am now associated with, and in the same class boxerbarn ( ) and I would ask your personally to remove my kennel name from your website - as I dont want my kennel name to ever be associated with them or any other breeder like it.

Are you also ready to hold responsibility is someone reads your website, see a handfull of great reviews that leads another person to purchase a puppy from that breeder, and then the puppies dies at th age of 1 from a genetic heart defect? Are you ready for that to ruin the credibility of your site? To me, too risky.

Its not fair then, if I am posting a review on boxerbarn bashing saying they sell puppies that are not heart tested, are in bad conditions too many litter etc, would you delete that comment when in reality it could be the truth and people are entitled to know people's opinion on a breeder because that is the "idea" of your entire site??

You cannot edit someone's post if you dont know the breeder, situation and them personally sorry. There are breeders the some people would give their right arm to have a pupppy buy, but me, you could not give me the dog for free. Hence why I think while the underlying content and objective is good, but unfor will be a losing battle with a lot of work on your end - *hope Im wrong though.
