Thoughts?

I debated where to put this - support? general?, but I settled here.

It has been a little less then 2 weeks since I loss Tucker and to put it mildly, I am not doing well. I'm not eating, not sleeping - I'm like a walking zombie. I don't laugh (which is my trademark - the smart ass always making a joke). I'm a total music person but I haven't played the piano since before Tucker got sick, the radio is off in my car, and I haven't sang in the shower or anywhere else in weeks.

Part of this is that I have a mild case of Seasonal Affective Disorder - normally very manageable, but not this year.

I need hope and I need life. Not to replace Tucker but to chase the shadows away. So I have been looking for a puppy but with very little success. I am so frustrated in my attempts to find a reputable breeder that last night I had myself half rationalizing putting down a deposit from a BYB nearby just to know that I would have a puppy soon.

So enough of my dumping on you all. What it comes down to is that if anyone knows a reputable breeder who will have puppies in the near future, please let me know. I live in Northern NY and haven't found anyone even reasonably close.

I understand where you are coming from. It will get easier with time. The pain will subside and you will soon begin to smile about the wonderful memories that you have of Tucker.
If you feel that another boxer will help you, than why not think about giving a boxer that has been sitting in a foster home, shelter, kennel, or rescue a good home. The rescues are so overcrowded and full right now. Maybe your perfect match is just waiting for you there! >:D<

Re: Thoughts?

I am really sorry to hear how things are for you. I actually got teary eyed reading it because I haven't lost a pet close to me, and starting thinking about it and how it must feel for you.

I don't think you are dumping on anyone... I think its good that you came here and shared your frustrations. Don't look at it as you are replacing Tucker, because that could never happen. But you do need to live again and be happy. Think about all the wonderful time you had with Tucker.

A lot of people will get another dog after losing one. There is nothing wrong with it and nothing wrong with looking.

Maybe do like Lisa said and look into rescuing. Sully has been amazing AND we didn't have to do any potty training, just showed hin where to go. Yes some rescues come with baggage, but most of them are so happy to have a home they will do anything to please and just want to be loved. You wouldn't have to spend as much time staying up at night with new puppy training too.

Just do what is best for you and I hope things start getting better for you >:D<

Cherrypie, I think of you often, wondering how you're getting along....Yes, you need hope and yes, you need life. After Stifler died, I was a wreck, just couldn't stop crying. Nobody understood my grief. My mother even died that same year, and to be honest, I handled her death much better than Stifler's. Everybody insisted it was just a dog. Well this dog was my family, was my baby, was my responsibility, and my heart hurt deeply with the loss of him. Somedays I found it hard to even get out of bed. I too had to get another dog, and no it was not to replace my boy, but to help with the pain. I'm sorry you're going through this, and getting another dog does help.

I'm sorry you're going through this, I can honestly sympathize. My family lost our 4 year old boxer in December to cardiomyopathy very unexpectedly, his loss has completely devastated us. One thing that helped us is my husband made the place where we buried him really nice, we worked very hard on our boys grave. My husband put an iron patio set out there so I can go visit and talk to Gunnar any time I want to. It really helps me cope with his loss. Just like Stiflersmom, I lost Gunnar in December, my sister in law 3 weeks later in January, and my dad Valentine's day. This has been the worst year, and losing my best friend was the hardest thing ever. I walked outside last weekend looking for my husband who was working in the storage building. Yelled for him, got no answer, so I walked on outside. Michael was at our boy's grave crying his eyes out, he had come across one of Gunnar's chewed up old tennis balls that had somehow gotten inside. Your grief in losing Tucker is something you'll just have to deal with day by day, some days are better than others. Just know that in time, it does get easier. And getting another dog isn't replacing him, he can never be replaced, he'll ALWAYS be in your heart. Good luck in your search.

Nothing to see here I guess.

***I edited post as the site you post is a well know BYB site and here on BF we dont want to give those types of sites any business.

Dang, I would try and talk to the pheasant hollow breeder. Their dogs are just gorgeous!
Why don't more breeders invest in their websites? Probably because they aren't worried about getting internet business...that makes sense...some of them are REALLY cheesy though, wow.

Re: Thoughts?

Yes some are elementary, but I get to know breeders and what not by going to shows and local boxer club events. They prob think I am the whacko without a show pup but I do know when I am ready for one, I will have a good selection of breeders who will place a puppy for me!!

Also cannot judge a breeder by their site either - talking to them, building a relationship even via e mail is all worth it because you will figure out if they are the breeder for you and not just someone with an available dog!
