Default Qestion from my sister

Hey guys... my sister is looking to get 2 Chihuahua puppies. I'm sharing all the info I've learned from BF about finding a reputable breeder with her and I've got a question for you all. She sent me a link to a website so I could check it out. From first glance I notice this "breeder" is advertising several different breeds (not cross breeds - just several breeds i.e. Akita, Chihuahua, Maltese, Poodle, Shih Tzu --- just to name a few). Does this scream BYB or is it a common thing?

There is a phone number on the site I was thinking about calling... it does NOT mention anything about health tests on the website. I've been doing a little bit of research for my sister about health issues / diseases / genetic pre-dispositions of Chihuahua's and so far I've found they are pretty sensitive doggies. I just want her to get the best dog possible and not a whole lot of heart-ache.

Our mom has a Chihuahua (Nina 5 yrs old) who just recently started having a little bit of health problems (neurological). She bought her from an ad in the newspaper... as did I w/ my 2 Boxer babies before I knew any better. My mom is kind of a lost cause when it comes to explaining the whole BYB issue... thankfully I think I'm making a little difference in my sister's opinions.

I don't know what all I can post about the website on here... I just figured I'd ask b/c to me the fact that they are advertising so many different breeds seemed weird? Any and all info would be really appreciated! My sister lives out in CA (El Centro area) if anyone knows any reputable breeders out there.

Thanks BF family!!

I would start here, then then maybe contact local Chihuahua club. They maybe able to direct her to any available litters in her area.

I would only buy a pup from someone who breeds only one type of dog, do your homework and check into that breeders bloodlines for health and temparment issues before you buy.

Thanks guys for your quick replies. I'm going to tell my sister to be careful from this "breeder." I kept saying BYB b/c the right word wasn't coming to mind --- puppy mill is what I was thinking.

HannaBanana: thanks for the link. I'm sending it to my sister right now.

I agree with the others. "Breeders" who breed more than one or two breeds at most are usually puppy mills. I would do some serious checking into this person, and I think I would tend to stay away.
