I am really so sorry to hear of your loss, I have also been through it.

I live in Germany. I have had many discussions on this forum how we have quite easy access to reputable breeders, some of my discussions have been quite heated.

The size of the US compared to Germany is just huge, so travelling here to visit breeders is quite easy. There are also processes here in place that also makes it easy to find them.

Of course buying a pup from a reputable breeder that has health tested dogs will in most cases minimize the risk of future health issues, but unfortunately there is never that 100% guarantee that the pups will always remain healthy. A vet check at 8 or 10 weeks will also not really provide any real evidence that a healthy pup will remain that way, only time will tell.

Health tested parents does not necessarily mean they are healthy; understanding the results of the tests is really the key issue.

I also think that a price of a pup may also play a significant factor when choosing where to buy from. A pup from a reputable breeder may cost between 1.000 and 1.500 dollars, and a pup from a BYB maybe around 400-500 dollars.

I am very interested to understand more about how you will look for a reputable breeder. How will you go about finding one? How can you be sure that the dogs have been health tested, and how can you be sure that the results have not been faked? How can you be sure that the sire is actually the father of the pups? What else do you think is important?

I realise you are going though hard times at the moment. So when ever you are ready, please let me know.

I wish you all the best
