Breeder in VA

I was wondering if anybody knew of a breeder in VA. I live in NOVA but I am willing to drive a few hours if need be.... We will be looking to buy our first Boxer in the next couple of months.

Thank you...
Julie

Why not adopt instead of going to a breeder? There are tons of Boxers that needs forever homes if you look. I found my baby on petfinder.com. I'm sure local shelters would have a Boxer or two there, or may know of some rescue groups local to you.

Hi fellow Virginian. I live in NOVA as well, Mclean to be exact :). where are you located? I got my puppy in May but I think they are "hobby" breeders and not the professional breeders. They just decided to breed their family dog with their friend's dog. I know they are not breeding the dog anymore as they wanted to do it one time only. Sorry dont know about professional breeder though. Good luck! Try the Boxer resuce group I think they are called Blue Ridge Boxer Group (?) cant remember. But keep us posted in any case.

I live near Woodbridge but we are moving to Stafford in a couple of months. I am open for adoption but I know my husband is not. He is very worried about adopting an older dog with having two young children to think about as well. We also have an older Boston (female) who is only 15 pounds but thinks she runs the show...LOL I used to volunteer for a shelter and I know the misinformation people have, as well as the need... however if we get a dog it has to be something we both agree on. I hope that makes sense. We are grieving right now for our male Boston who suffered a massive stroke and we need some time... I just want to do my research for when we are ready. We had a lot of health issues with our male Boston due to the fact that he was a back yard breeder puppy and I think we also want to know the history of our future pup to put our minds at ease a bit. It is horrible to see your dog suffer health issues his whole life... And we lost him only at the age of 10. So, please understand that we are trying to do what is best for our family. Thank you all for the advise.

I'm also searching for my next puppy. So far I've come close a couple of times, but haven't locked one up yet. I'm also dealing with the recent loss of my boy who died from ARVC. He lived a good life of 9 years and 7 months, but it was still very hard watching him detiorate so fast. Because of my experience with him, coming from health tested parents with longevity within the lines is very important to me. Are you familiar with the health testing side of things? If not, I would definitely recommend reading up on that.

Here are a few links that I've found useful so far. :)

This is where I started my search. American Boxer Club: U.S. Individual Boxer Related Web Sites

Another member of the forums sent me this link. http://pro-boxers.com/am_breeders.html

One of the breeders I contacted redirected me to this page, but so far I'm finding a lot of them to be outdated or not even up and running anymore. http://www.jovilea.com/Boxers/breedersUS.html

Thanks Mandy. I am sorry for your loss as well. My male was our first Boston and within weeks he started developing issues so when we wanted a second I did my research and got our female from a well known breeder within the Boston comumunity who does genetic testing and shows. Thank you for all the information... I know you understand exactly what we are going through and why we are going the breeder route. Good luck on your search!

I am close to the Northern VA area and am looking for a new pup as well. Were you successful in finding a good breeder?

Try the "Potomac Boxer Club" and maybe the Maryland Boxer Club! Potomac is located in NOVA, I'm not sure of location of the Maryland Club!
