Default Teeth Chattering

I was horsing around with Logan this afternoon and he caught my arm just right with one of his nails and it drew a little bit of blood. Before I realized I was bleeding Logan noticed it and he started doing this weird teeth chattering thing like he was barely chewing on something, but there was nothing in his mouth. Have you ever seen your's do that?

Have you ever heard of idiopathic tremors? It's basically when part of their body shakes for no apparent reason. I've heard of it a lot with Boxers mouths and heads.

I have heard of that, but don't think that's what happened. He wasn't shaking, his teeth were just kind of chattering after he caught the scent of the blood on my arm. Once I cleaned up and put a bandaid on it we carried on as if nothing happened. He's been perfectly fine ever since.

HUH!!! It's amazing what you can find out when you Google things. LOL

Apparently, it's called the Flehmen Response and it's the dogs way of processing different smells.

I even found a video on Youtube (not a boxer though).

Mine have done that, but I don't remember the exact circumstances around it.

My males do this when they get the scent of a female coming into heat. York of course adds his own twist to it and includes the tongue flicker, usually out the side of his mouth, lol.

I'm sure my other two did this at one point, but I never picked it up. It was weird, but funny!

Ok, kind of like cats. I don't think Duke's ever done that. Although it must look pretty funny on a Boxer!

I had a beagle that use to do that ALL THE TIME. When they smell something they like, they do this. It is a way for them to taste it!! Every time we were out on a walk and he would smell another dogs pee, he would do it. Kinda of Creepy, but just their way of testing what they think smells SO GOOD!! Dogs!!!
