HELP! My half-bread bred with a purebred.

I am convinced that my recently acquired half Boxer, Macy, is pregnant. She was in a fence with a purebred (before jumping the fence to come here after the purebred had ripped a large wound on her leg) and the purebred's owner said they were "tied up" at least once. I don't know how she could have missed this if it were more than once. The previous owner just told me this today after I messaged her with questions. She had previously told me that Macy was spayed @ the shelter.

HERE IS MY QUESTION: Will the puppies look like a purebred? She has recently started getting bigger (I didn't know she had bred) and her nipples are growing. The alleged breeding supposedly took place around the end of September or the first week of October. I got Macy on September 13 and she wasn't showing any symptoms of being in heat and I know they have a gestation period of 56-63 days.

WILL SOMEONE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION? :clown:

I would absolutely take her to the vet and have an ultrasound done to determine if she is pregnant, how far she really is along, etc. I would also revisit the place you got her to see if there is any way they would pay for the vet services, or a way you could get your $ back if she is indeed pregnant, as wouldn't that nullify their contract?? ESP if they told you she was priorly spayed ? Usually, you can tell when dogs are in heat because whether they are bleeding, or not, their vulvas are usually HUGE and they are generally just uncomfortable and licking a lot down there. But it is in the 2nd to 3rd week when the blood subsides when they are most fertile.

I'm sorry - I just read that again that the previous owner told u she was spayed- not the shelter, but generally those are shelter requirements, so I would ask them still. That other owner sounds like a real winner, glad she is out of there now, poor thing. You probably will not know exactly what the puppies will look like to answer your other question- until they come. Most likely boxer, but who knows. Who knows if that other owner was blowing smoke on that one too.

"Reekosmom," it absolutely doesn't, but I was curious about this subject and after Googling it several times, I couldn't find an answer. This forum is to ask questions, without getting rude answers. You are just being a little rude. THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSE, THOUGH. HAVE A WONDERFUL EVENING.

Thanks, "mgibs." The previous owner is definitely a "real winner." She lied to me about several things, so I am not if I should believe her about Macy and the purebred breeding. Regardless, Macy is in a better place and is simply awesome. She has had a VERY rough life-- going through a total of 4 owners during her short life. The best dog ever.

Just a word of advice: you are not just on any typical Boxer forum, this forum highly frowns upon and downright despises irresponsible breeding of Boxers. So you'll have to expect to get some justified negative feedback.

Had to add:

RE: Cindi's question, she has a good point, you asking if the puppies will look purebred insinuates that (if they do look purebred) you will sell them to make a profit and pass them off as full-bred, which is very, VERY bad.

She came here from the lady's house that rescued her from the local animal shelter. The lady's dog (male) was being mean to Macy and she is a very calm, non-aggressive dog. I think she is too far into gestation to have the pregnancy terminated.

We are paying a visit to the Vet tomorrow. :)

Ok I know I'm blonde... But I've read this about 50 times and it still doesn't make sense... If you got her on sept 13, and she was "tied up" with the other dog... Shouldn't you know? Bc he "alleged" pregnancy took place after you got her. Can you see a spay scar on her belly? Did you get any paperwork from said previous owner??? Maybe I missed/misunderstood something... I'm highly confused though :-/

Also on the question about looks, like everyone else said. Wyatt's litter had two very beautiful flashy fawn parents and in the litter of 7 only two were flashy, Wyatt was the next flashiest and as you can see isn't too flashy... But flash or not he's my baby and I love him!

She was rescued by a lady that lives 2 blocks from here who owned the purebred that she was "tied up" with. She came here after that on October 13.

She has a scar on her belly, but it is round as if it was from her umbilical cord. I hope that clarifies your questions, "Wyatts_Momma."

We're going to the Vet tomorrow.

I too would look into spaying her my girl roxi had a mixed boxer shepherd from 3 yards over go through 4 fences to "get" her it SUCKED
A) she had an even dozen
B) I screened all homes I had 62 people want 12 pups and picked the best, fenced yard past / current vets past /current dogs, kids, did home visits watched them interact with them and momma at my house etc.
C) I put out all the $ for docking and dews that has to happen before they are 4 days old at about 65 a pup
D) I dint charge a dime for any of them
E) I required proof of spay /neuter by a year and constant contact with all owners and proof faxed to me until then
since then I have kinda lost touch with several of them they are now almost 4 also none of them left my care until they were 12 weeks old so they had plenty of time w momma and sibs and we started socialization with "strange " things like bikes and strollers and cars we also payed for their first two sets of shots at 30 per pup so we had a lot invested in them before they ever left to their forever homes not to mention we started housebreaking you haven't lived until you clean up after 12 puppies 15-25 times a day if I was EVER in that situation again I would have terminated the pregnancy in a heartbeat

If Macy is pregnant and she is not full boxer, her pups should be healthy. The Heinz 57 variety dogs are always much healthier than pure bred. My only question is can you find homes for her puppies? Then, I would get her spayed.... Best of luck to you and Macy!

^^ This statement is not quite accurate

Just because a litter is from two different breeds it does not mean they are of better health or will have less health issues. If those two breeds are purebreds than you will have to worry about health issues that effect both breeds.

The reason Heinz 57's are usually healthier is because the gene pool is much wider.

The only thing about giving pups away for free is that you need to screen the potential homes VERY carefully (as I know cadkids did) to ensure they don't malicious intents. A lot of slime balls will take free puppies, kittens, etc and do unthinkable things to them.

Personally, if it were me, I would charge something for the puppies. Even if it were just a minimal amount, BUT I would then turn around and either donate cash to local rescues/shelters or buy supplies that are on their wish lists for them. To me, it just seems more logical that if someone is willing to pay for something than they're less likely to do harm to it.

Macy is definitely pregnant. I had her back at the Vet today and she, along with the babies, are doing great. The Vet estimated that she is approximately 5 weeks into gestation.

She will be spayed after this litter, but we have to deal with first things first. I appreciate all of the suggestions and advice. We plan on getting the pups seen by a vet after they are born, getting all of their vaccinations, getting their tails docked and thoroughly investigating anyone that is interested in a pup.

I plan to charge a small fee for the pups, only to donate the funds to a local program that assists low income folks with spaying/neutering their pets.

Thanks,
One Happy Papa

There is my baby today (11/7/2012). The vet seems to think she is around 40-45 days, but the lady I got her from says that she saw her and the papa "together" around the end of September or first week of October, which would put her at around 40 days. Can I please get some estimations/opinions from you all?

There is no way to tell from a picture. Sahara gave you good advice, get her on a puppy kibble asap! She needs it for milk production. Google and read up on how to whelp a litter so you have supplies ready when the time comes. First time mothers arent always great with opening up the sacks to let the puppies breathe. You will need supplies such as towels, betadine, hemostats, dental floss, digital thermometer etc. Have you planned on where she is going to whelp these puppies? I strongly suggest you either build a whelping box or get a plastic kiddie pool. You will also need either a heat lamp or a heating pad. Puppies can not regulate their body temps, you will have to make sure there is a warm spot in the whelping box.

Good Luck and start filling your brain with as much research as possible!!
