Default Pancreas Issues

Hello everyone! It has been awhile since I have been here. Jax became a picky eater and started losing weight. The vet treated him for IBS for 3 weeks and there was no improvement. We were taking him back every week for a recheck. Yesterday they ran some tests and they came back that he has a bad pancreas and he is not producing enzymes like he should be. They put him on some new medication last night and said that we should see a big difference by the weekend. It has been a very exhausting and stressful last few weeks. We are praying that this medicine is going to help him. I am relieved that it is not lymphomia. Please send prayers for Jax.

I would put him on a low protein and very low Fat food try to get the fat under 10%.
Wishing you & Jax well . IMO

Sorry Jax has had problems but at least you are on the right track. I hope he steadily improves.

He is doing a little better. We have not had any messes in the house since Wednesday. I am not sure what all they tested him for. The only thing that I know is that the only thing that came back bad was his bloodwork showing low enzymes.

It's good he's improving.

Our vet warned us about pancreas issues on our initial visit. They do it with all puppies. They said they see it a lot from giving dogs people food. I'm not saying this is your situation, only noting it as it relates to the pancreas and may be helpful for others.

Hope he's back to his old self soon.

I think its because a lot of people look at their dogs like a garbage disposal. lol They give their dogs table scraps which tend to be very fatty things. Grizzle, chicken skin etc. I was reading something about how emergency vets have a ton of calls right around holidays especially Thanksgiving from people giving their dogs tons of fatty scraps. Triggers a lot of pancreatic issues

I had a vet BalanceIt diet formulated for a dog with chronic pancreatitis/IBD. The type he had pointed to auto-immune disease so he was on low doses of prednisone. It finally was stable on the new diet. We gave Viokase to see if it could ease some of the symptoms. We didn't use it for EPI since that was not the problem. There is a really good EPI site out there.

It looked like Jax was doing better for a couple of days. Unfortunately, he was not. We took him back to the vet and left him for the day for Xrays. When we picked Jax up that afternoon we were given little hope. The veterinarian told us that the xrays showed that he has gastro issues, but he felt like it was cancer. We scheduled and ultrasound for the next day at a different vet. The ultrasound came back that his intestines are inflamed, but cancer has not been ruled out. The veterinarian believes that it could be a very bad case of IBD that the original vet did not deal with properly. We were told that whatever the issue is that it has lead to Protein Losing Entrothapy. Yesterday he went to the vet for bloodwork. The vet is sending his bloodwork off to Texas GI and A and I. He also had bloodwork sent off for a senior blood panel. We should have results back tomorrow or Tuesday. We are hoping for the best. We have made up our minds that the vet he is at now will be our new vet.
