Default Cherry Eye

So Cami has recently been diagnosed with Cherry Eye and we are currently using eye drops per our vets recommendation but she is pretty sure surgery will be needed. I would like to hear from others on their experiences with this issue and if there were any complications or reoccurrences after surgery.

Oh and there is no doubt we will be having the surgery completed but we are in the process of finding the right facility in Indianapolis to do it. I have so far gotten a couple of estimates of $800.00 via a vet and $1200 - $1500 via a veterinarian ophthalmologist.

I'm so sorry to hear that your Cami needs surgery. I wish her well. I have no experience with Cherry Eye surgery. My Tala had it but it eventually self-resolved so no surgery was required. Hopefully someone will come on with some better encouragement.

Never even heard of it.Just my opinion and I have no experience with it, but I would spend the extra few bucks and go to the specialist. Well here is hoping to a speedy recovery when you decide to get the surgery.

Ugh ... I have herd of it! With Rotties, but I never saw what they were talking about?? But my friends said something about the eye lids needing to be fixed?? It did take surgery and yeah it would be best to go with the "$pecialist."

My first boxer had cherry eye. He would have an episode about once or twice a year when he was young. When he got older it happened less. I did not opt for surgery. I did regularly massage his eye and used an ointment and not drops.

Aww poor Cami. Yes cherry eye is the prolapse of the third eyelid gland. It should be surgically repaired and the sooner the better. It is fairly common in brachycephalic breeds. Does Purdue have a veterinary school? Perhaps they may be a consideration, sometimes you can get better prices when you go to vet schools.

Thanks for the replies. I will be checking with Purdue but likely opt with a local Veterinary Opthamologist.

Our Bichon used to get cherry eye sporadically. We never opted for surgery, just treated it as it occurred. Oh, and we stopped letting her pop her head out the car window.
