Hi All,
I am looking for a little bit of reassurance... my 3.5 year old boxer Bruschi had 2 lumps removed from his shoulder a couple of weeks ago with local local anesthesia... they came back as mast cell tumors and the vet suggest we schedule a surgery so they can ensure they be removed completely. Well while we are waiting for the surgery another bump has showed up and is growing quickly on his back leg. They are now going to remove that one as well. I was feeling pretty optimistic until another bump seemed to appear overnight... but now I am worried this may be more serious than I thought. Obviously we do not know (yet) if this new bump is mast cell, but my imagination is getting the best of me at this point. Has anyone gone through a similar experience? My mind has gone to a dim place at this point and I'm not sure if I should be preparing myself for the worst or if we still have a chance... Here is my buddy.. ![]() Last edited by Bruschi; 10-03-2019 at 02:21 PM. |

I am understand why you would be so worried for your baby, that would be so scary! I have had to deal with mast cell tumors when my previous dogs got much older but that is scary in one so young. I will keep my finger crossed for you I hope all turns out well. These guys get into our hearts and its hard when something unforeseen happens but you can only do what you think is best for dog and that's all they would ask of us. The most I have ever had to have removed is 2 at one time. These were located on my dogs chest area/shoulder I would guess the good news here is you have been paying close attention and getting these things off as soon as possible.

Oh I'm sorry, you guys are going thru this! I have no particular knowledge/experience with this particular malady, but I/we hope all goes well.

I hope not either, please post and let us know how your dog is doing. I think we can all learn a lot from each others experiences whether they are good or bad. We can help each other but just being supportive. All of us who love these dogs have had to deal with some kind of health issue at one time or another. I find that Vets seem to have jumped already to the worst conclusions when it comes to boxers and its not always true. I hope they will be able to get all the tumors with one surgery.

Thank you ❤️ I will keep everyone updated
After we got the results of the biopsy my vet told me they did have a very small margin of healthy tissue around both of the bumps but they were VERY small and a surgery would be best. I asked if it were her dog what would she do.. she said she would do the surgery.. so that’s what we decided to do. She told me he will be ok but now I’m nervous with this new bump that appeared. Best case it is not mast cell but only time will tell. His surgery is scheduled for October 15... he developed some “digestion issues” last weekend and they wanted to wait till he was back to normal first so now we wait. |

I too hate that you have to deal with this - especially with such a young baby.
Our two older boys are from the same litter and will be 6 in a couple of weeks. About 2 years ago, Jax, brindle, had a lump removed from his ear- it looked wart like, but was a benign tumor. It was removed and we have not seen more since. It grew pretty fast. A few months after that, our fawn, Tundra, had a bump on his side. The vet told us what it was, I don't recall the name, but it was different than Jax's bump. He said Tundra's would go away, and in a few weeks it was gone. What we all wish every bump would do that appears. We are going to the vet later today due to a little sore under Tundra's front leg, and two bumps/growths we found on him in the last week. He has a pea sized one on his back leg and a larger one on his under side- kind of between his stomach and chest. It's about the size of a peanut M&M. They are flesh colored and came out of nowhere. He's acting normal otherwise- eating, drinking, playing, etc.... I hope the surgery for Bruschi goes well and hope he's healthy for years. I'll let you know what we find out too- I expect the vet will want to schedule a time to put Tundra under and remove these, but we will see. |

I wish both of you the best of outcomes for your dogs. I have been thru these lump/bump issues with my previous dogs. My last female got a lipoma on her lower leg once it was benign very squishy in feeling. The black ones that came up on my other dogs were those mast cell tumors my Vet told me those can be bad but usually they can get enough margins around them to get it all. It pays to be vigilant for sure.

Update on Tundra-
the vet said neither bump is concerning to her. We will watch them and we can have them removed when we do his dental cleaning in 3-4 months. If they grow, we will remove them sooner. We don't want to put him under more than we have to and we have to get a little weight off of him too. We will watch for the color too- currently both are flesh/ peach colored. I hope Bruschi is doing better on the stomach issues. |
